Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Sep 23, 2015 12:38 pm Hello, I built a new house with a project builder and asked the builder to pre-wire for intercom. So they pulled a cat5e (8 wire) cable from the doorbell location to the main unit location, and a 4 wire cable from the main unit to the alarm unit. Anybody knows what is the role of the 4 wire cable from the main intercom unit to the alarm unit ? Also where does the power of the intercom come from ? Many thanks ... Re: Intercom Pre-wiring 2Nov 23, 2015 9:49 pm I reckon the cat5e cable between the door station and the main unit is for both to communicate to each other. The 4core cable from the main unit to the alarm panel is most likely for power to the unit. The installer will have the ac adaptor plugged in where the alarm is then will use the 4core to extend the dc power from the adaptor to the intercom indooe unit.. Hope this makes sense Re: Intercom Pre-wiring 3Nov 24, 2015 8:17 am Thanks Ch4vacano Indeed as you mentioned is right. I was lucky to get the smart wiring people in my house to fix a problem, then I interrogated them. hahaha They were nasty on the phone and refused to give information. It's fairly simple and rather than paying them $1000 to fix it, I got a very good one with video recording from Ebay for $200. Easy DIY Cheers Hi everyone!
