JB hi fi tend to have two types of in wall speakers Studio Acoustics and Jensen USA. What is general feeling towards these speakers are they good or bottom of the barrel?

Audiophiles would say they are below an acceptable level, whereas there are people who have installed them and reckon they sound fantastic (there are people who have installed cheaper speakers who also reckon those sound great too).
It all depends on how much of a decerning music listener you are - what sort of level would you accept in a traditional HiFi system - and how much of your hard earned you are comfortable with parting to achieve your desired system? For me, they do not reach an acceptable level of sound quality, and my entry level is one above the level of the Jensens - the Jamo Custom Architect range (which JB are no longer allowed to carry) or the Paradigm CS range is where I start to smile when listening to them. But not everyone is of the same level of snob as I am Re: JB Hi Fi Speakers 3Jul 03, 2008 8:01 pm I agree with it all coming down to money in regards you could spend $20,000 on speakers if you wanted to.
I have Jensen USA speakers at home and absolutely love them. The only speaker I would upgrade is the centre speaker from the twin to the quad model. I use the two floor speakers in stereo for listening to music and the 5 for movies. The powered sub is enormous. I think the ten year warranty is also quite impressive. As far as a discerning listener, I have been a musician playing/ teaching for 22 years and have also studied sound/engineering so whilst far from an expert I like to think my ear a little better than the average punter. Re: JB Hi Fi Speakers 4Jul 04, 2008 7:09 am My (laymans) opinion is that speaker and music systems are like wine - different things will please different people.
The best thing is to listen to the combo you want before you buy - the problem with JB (or any of the big stores) is that you can't listen to them properly - people around, too much background noise etc. Oh yeah, and when you do go and listen - take your own CD which is well known to you. That way you can pick up on anything you like or don't like. Let us know how you go. Cheers Re: JB Hi Fi Speakers 5Jul 04, 2008 7:45 am I have just installed Jensens into my Brother in laws cinema, andfind the quality of the sound to be very good. There may be others that are better, but I think for value for money, they are very good.
I installed the QX 15 fronts with a QX65 Centre. Jensen EHT4's in roof speeakers for the rears are great, I have them at home as well. (EHT4's have an angled cone, which angles the sound twowards the seat, rather than straight down.) I have the Studio Acoustics 8' in roofs for my al fresco and they are great. The sound quality is great, the tones are very good and installationw as easy. Adrian B |
