Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jun 30, 2008 4:50 pm Hi Matt/Rodda or anyone else that could help!
On the weekend we bought a "wii". It's plugged into our receiver via a cable designed for wii, consisting of one plug into the wii which then seperates into component video, and old fashioned L/R stereo for sound. The volume level through the speakers is fully ridiculous - we have to have it on mute to play. -79.5DB on the receiver is incredibly loud. I cant seem to find anything in the wii setting that would adjust this. Is there something in the receiver that can adjust? Faulty wii? Faulty cable? (everything else works perfectly) Thanks Guys! Re: Sound level from Wii. 6Jun 30, 2008 6:13 pm We have a Wii, I agree that it seems quite loud. I have a PS3 and the Wii plugged into my Yamaha AVR. If I switch from the PS3 to the Wii, I'm usually startled by the loudness of the bootup sound from the Wii. I just turn it down a bit, nowhere close to mute though.......
Maybe there's a setting in your AVR where you can adjust the gain at the input stage. It's a bit useless asking us without quoting the model number of your AVR - maybe somebody has one or is familiar with your model. Perhaps you could try plugging the Wii into a different input - maybe some inputs have less gain than others ? Try posting in one of the Wii forums, like here : http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-th ... ?f=8&g=113 Cheers, Justin. Re: Sound level from Wii. 8Jun 30, 2008 6:43 pm I would have suggested a Wii forum too.
Have you tried another input in the AVR? (you haven't got it plugged into the Phono input, have you?). Re: Sound level from Wii. 9Jun 30, 2008 10:36 pm Phono input would have been my guesstimate too...
Failing that ... give me the yammy model number and lets start digging together! Re: Sound level from Wii. 10Jul 01, 2008 10:14 am ok - its plugged in like: (component video and L/R audio under "dvd")
(have moved the dvd to another input and it works fine, as i needed an input that accepts component video) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Its not in the phono input, which is on the far left. Hav I done something stupid....?? Its a RXV 1800B. Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: Sound level from Wii. 11Jul 01, 2008 11:42 am Do you also have one of the Digital audio inputs assigned to DVD?
It might make a difference? If you do try ensuring none are assigned to DVD (if you can). What about swapping them all to another imput (that also has a component video input - there's three there)? Re: Sound level from Wii. 15Jul 01, 2008 4:14 pm perryr Stuff the neighbours. Wii should be played LOUD! Umm. You don't live next to me, do you? You already make enough noise with those speakers in the al fresco. Loud is fine....but this is "blow up speakers" level at normal listening level for anything else!! Perry, are you happy with the Yammy.....I'm in the market for a new receiver.....want to cut down the number of cables running into the plasma....it's looking like it's on life support at the moment....my older Yamaha receiver doesn't handle the new fangled video inputs. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Sound level from Wii. 18Jul 02, 2008 2:49 pm Hi Mike - haven't got it cranked up as yet, because I want to set it up in the new place. I did quite a bit of reading about them before I bought it, and while it misses a few feature of the more expensive models, I wasn't too fussed about it. This unit was $690 - so I couldn't say no!
Cheers Re: Sound level from Wii. 19Jul 02, 2008 3:03 pm Ok...try one last night: I have disconnected the cable I had and used the original cable in the front v/aux input. The volume is fine.... So now to try this cable in the same inputs as the other.... Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007.
