http://wirewize.com/ How to Connect Your Entertainment Gear Free A/V website Wirewize takes most of the guesswork out of hooking together your television, DVD player, stereo speakers, and other gear. After a free sign-up, enter in the model and make of each component, and Wirewize will offer up which cables are needed, and diagram how they should run. Not every bit of equipment will be listed, especially those no longer sold, but the site has PDF manuals for some of the goods it does have. For A/V neophytes and those trying to troubleshoot friends' systems over the phone. Re: Wiring help website 2Jun 29, 2008 5:03 pm Sorry mate, but in my opinion if you know enough to be able to setup your system on that site - you know what components you have or if not know how to select the 'generic' ones from their very simplistic view of how setups and components can vary, and after getting past the next stage where they suggest you buy every cable you need, if you can then understand their install instructions without getting a headache from the the tech diagrams etc., then you would already know how to plug this stuff in yourself without their so called help.
If this site is designed to help people who don't have a clue how to connect their gear, it would lose them during the 'selecting components' stage if not later at the 'connection instructions' stage. It makes a couple of very unrealistic assumptions: 1. That components and setups are generic and can be pidgeon holed. Sorry, but this is not the case (just ask Adrian B how much mucking around he had getting a subwoofer connected to a Yamaha A/V receiver). The cables required are only one facet of getting these devices to work properly together. 2. That people who don't understand the basics of connecting A/V components will know enough to get through their site's setup process and be able to understand and implement their generic instructions. That site is actually just one particular method of marketing their on-line catalogue of cables etc.... Re: Wiring help website 3Jun 29, 2008 5:07 pm oh well. as i said i found it when i was reading something unrelated this morning and though it was worth posting if only to get your thoughts an informed opinion about it. cheers.
