Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 May 01, 2015 11:42 am OK, I'm struggling with the design of our Theatre Room. I would have never thought there could be so many small issues if things are not thought through all the way to fitting a room out lol. The current room has a 1200mm Cavity Slider that is close to the wall of the Alfresco. I am thinking 1 of the following... Option 1. Move Cavity Slider 500mm to left to allow for cabinets to go full length and LED TV will be mounted to wall in centre. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Option 2. Change Cavity Slider to Double Hinged Doors. Located the same as option 1 to allow for cabinets. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Option 3. Change Cavity Slider to Double Hinged Doors. Leave location close to Alfreco wall but reduce length of cabinets to allow walkway. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Option 4. None of the above... I have a better suggestion.. Please post below lol. Option 5. Updated plan.. see this post: viewtopic.php?p=1347475#p1347475 Cheers, Paul (& Lisa) Parkhill 36 by ClarendonHomes in Coomera Retreat H1 Build Thread And Blog Building Blogs List - Go Ahead And Add Yours!! Re: Need Help With Theatre Design. 3May 01, 2015 12:24 pm Option 1 is nice from a usage point of view, and that the door stays out of the way when open. I would have thought that a cavity slider would be worse for noise isolation though, because they won't seal as well and the wall cavity can't be filled with acoustic insulation. If you go swinging door, I'd mainly aim that it's out of the way against a wall when open. Need Help With Theatre Design. 4May 01, 2015 12:44 pm You can have your double doors hinged to move 180deg so would swing back against a wall. Is the cabinetry going to be built in, if so I think it'll be much slicker if that went wall to wall, option 2! Re: Need Help With Theatre Design. 5May 01, 2015 12:48 pm Your room is not dissimilar to mine..... Put a single door that has a 180 degree hinge that opens towards the chairs. That will allow full width screen and also clear the first row of chairs. If it doesn't then capitalise by putting the riser step on the door side. Cavity sliders not good for sound. My original plan called for double doors but i went to a single door that was slightly wider and solid core so that I can have a better chance of sealing. Good luck. Re: Need Help With Theatre Design. 6May 01, 2015 12:53 pm Agree with the comment about cavity slider not being as noise efficient, but otherwise I think it's a better option for the space. Definitely want full length cabinetry regardless! You've mentioned this before mate but I just cant visualise how this could work? It would mean having the raised platform right in the doorway which I just cant figure out how that would work? Re: Need Help With Theatre Design. 11May 02, 2015 10:22 am Hmm, Have re-worked the layout to include a single 920 solid core door on 180 degree hinges. Rear platform will be 360mm maximum height (dont want the step up to be any more than 2 risers) Still not sure on a couple of issues... Seat spacing.. How deep do I need to make the platform to allow seats and also enough space to walk in? How wide do I need to allow for the step up to the platform? Normally steps / passage would be at least 900mm but that will compromise the lower row of seats? Or do I just offset that row to the opposite wall as in the below images? For that matter.. how bloody big ARE those seats?? OH.. Almost forgot.. How high do I mount the TV? Have based these images on a LED TV being about 1100mm high x 1800mm wide. LMAO.. I think there is way too many requirements for a perfect Home Theatre to try and fit it into a smaller area like mine? Re: Need Help With Theatre Design. Updated Ideas 12May 02, 2015 12:18 pm Looks good... I would maybe have the screen wall a little different but appreciate it is a mock up. I would also have some slight protrusions on the side walls so that they are not totally flat, this could be done with room treatments. I like the staggered look of the chairs and I am having the same dilemma. I don't really want to go the standard cup holders in the arms look and have been looking at 2x1s, I see that you also have some singles as well. How much does your front cabinets protrude? reason I ask is that you may be able to go with speakers behind the screen. Looking good...... Re: Need Help With Theatre Design. Updated Ideas 13May 02, 2015 12:29 pm Hi Mark, Yeah it is just a mockup lol. I have the cabinets set to 450mm deep on sides and top with the middle section below the screen set at 600mm. I was thinking of hanging some pictures on the wall (In between the wall lights) with maybe some "egg crate" foam fitted in to the back of them? I can see that I am going to have to get the builder to complete this room for hand over, then pretty much gut it completely to re-fit with the products I want lol Cheers, Paul (& Lisa) Parkhill 36 by ClarendonHomes in Coomera Retreat H1 Build Thread And Blog Building Blogs List - Go Ahead And Add Yours!! Re: Need Help With Theatre Design. Updated Ideas 14May 02, 2015 2:24 pm Well get them to use sound check gyprock instead of plaster. It cost me about 1k to do the entire room. I would be wary of hollow structures as they can produce rattles. Check out Krix phonix as they mount flush against the wal. That will allow easy placement if you want a scope screen. Pay for the builder to do the plaster in sound check. Will make it less stressfull. Re: Need Help With Theatre Design. Updated Ideas 15May 02, 2015 2:50 pm Having the door open outwards from the room, the first step at the door way, so you can step up on to your riser from the door. Updated Ideas 16May 03, 2015 3:08 pm I like option 2. The left door would bolt in to the door frame when not needed and the right door being the main access. The wall scones will look nice when complete (with dimming). Not going for the projector option? Updated Ideas 17May 03, 2015 3:15 pm I had originally opted for sconces but decided it would be busy with side speakers and all. Opted for a vaulted ceiling with led light trough and dimmable starlights in the bulk head. If the room was bigger I would use sconces but not sure they are needed. Light trough was pretty expensive I guess its because its labour intensive. Re: Need Help With Theatre Design. Updated Ideas 18May 03, 2015 5:10 pm Yeah they may be changed in my design as well Mark. I want a Picture Rail around the room with some sort of Black / Dark wall paper. Maybe a "Block" inspired seagrass? With acoustic panels above. Maybe I can incorporate some lighting into the Picture Rail?
