Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Apr 30, 2015 4:26 pm Hi Guys, I know most of you guys love your own dedicated home theatre room. I got to many kids to have space for another room for watching movies(not sure what else you use your theatre room- maybe a new thread) So have any of you guys had it in your living area/family area? Love to see pictures and what equipment you used or tips you might have. I know living areas are not the best for projectors because of light.. mixo Re: Home theatre in the living area 2Apr 30, 2015 5:17 pm Last house we had dedicated media room used it 6 times in 5 years. This house made a lounge room that has two door ways on it so can be turned into media room by putting two doors on. Comes down to what you will use we felt a lounge room that's open and an extension of our living was better than a dedicated media room we wouldn't use. We have a lounge room, living room, dining room and children's retreat so I wanted to be able to use all 4 areas when ever and as often as possible not pidgin hole one room or area to an exclusive use Re: Home theatre in the living area 3May 02, 2015 3:54 pm Hi mixo. We couldn't be bothered having a separate theatre room either but we still wanted a really mice set up for watching films and tv. We invested in King furniture Cloud recliners, which are beautiful to watch tv in and don't look like recliners. We also got really nice speakers put in professionally and the AV guy put them out into our alfresco area, in a different zone. I feel like we get double duty for our money as the recliner lounge is our main lounge and I can listen to music on the deck. We just have a normal TV set up. We just use Apple TV streamed from the US. No projectors or anything too fancy. We don't watch TV during the day so keeping out light is not a problem. Re: Home theatre in the living area 4May 03, 2015 3:48 pm Hi Mixmo, It depends on your lifestyle. A dedicated home theatre is a bit of a luxury if you are able to add one. I have 3 kids and was lucky to be able to build a house that catered for an additional room for one plus having their rooms and a playroom. I am in the home theatre mostly every night just watching normal TV shows via my PVRs. It is very comfy and I tend to find I nod off. Most people find it excessive or simply don't have the room, but in a living room, I have and recommend having a large screen LED TV with front left, centre, & right speakers with subwoofer and ceiling speakers for the rears (or a blu-ray all in one surround system are good). A nice lounge to go with it and your set.
