Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Mar 26, 2015 1:51 pm Hi, So I'm about to start building and have been trying to decide my network layout. I have points going to each bedroom, the home theater, family room and kitchen. These all come back to the garage where I'll be putting my rack up with everything in it including my home server. What I would like to know is if it is feasible to only have one tv point and have that going to the garage? Currently I have dual tuners setup in my HTPC and have these shared around the house. The main reason I have it in my HTPC rather than the home server is because of where the tv point is. What I would ideally like is to move the tuners to the home server and then have the tv point put into the garage where it will be. This will save me having to put tv points around the house instead it can be a data point. I haven't found anyone else who has done this. Do you think it is feasible? Or do you think it will hurt the value of the house(no tv points where they should be!)? Re: TV Points for Networked House 2Mar 26, 2015 1:57 pm Having a TV point at the rack is a good idea, but I would put them at other locations as well as you suggest for future owners. RG6 quad shield is pretty cheap - you can get it run back to the rack in the garage and then it is simple for a future owner to install a splitter and put a TV signal at the other locations. If you are in a Foxtel satellite area consider running two or even 3 coax cables to each point - that way you (or a future owner) can have Foxtel + FTA at those locations. If you are in a Foxtel or Optus cable area then you only need one coax for Pay TV and one for FTA. Re: TV Points for Networked House 3Mar 30, 2015 1:20 am Go 2 x data points per room if you can. look at HDbaseT matrix, which you can stream video/sound of all devices (bluray, foxtel,tv,appleTV etc) over cat5/6 to each tv in house. and have all those devices tucked away in garage (google: HDanywhere) id recommend a second data point for other use, such as video game system or HTPC, kids rooms for laptops/desktop pcs etc. i went coax in main living and HT only, just for back up.
