Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jun 22, 2008 8:38 pm Any of you tech wizards heard of /know about this system? We went to an Inf*rm display yesterday,, and they had it throughout the home. DH's eyes lit up like a Christmas tree !!! He's been thinking of getting Sonos, or something similar , but loved the look of this. They even had one in the shower!!!! All I thought was $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ !!! Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts....Ta! Systems like these are excellent if you want to have descreet music in more than a couple of rooms with centralised components (some non 'genuine multi-room' audio setups can get you 2 or 3 rooms of sound, but you find that accessing and controlling everything can fast get very clunky). Be aware, even systems like the Nuvo Simplese and Essentia (4 and 6 zones) can come with keypads that are too basic in my opinion (there are cheaper systems out there that mimic the likes of these too, and they suffer from the same drawback) - you can only control the system itself via it's keypads and not control any of the connected sources (CD player, tuner, etc.). You usually need a remote in your hand (either a programmable remote that some systems come with, or in the case of the cheaper ones you need the orginal remote from the source itself). A system like the Elan System 6 (or S6 for short) for example comes complete with keypads that can control the external, connected sources (as well as controlling the system itself), so there is no need to carry any remote control around with you. This is (again, in my opinion) the minimum amount of control required to make it really descreet - all you have in any room is a keypad on the wall and a pair of speakers flush mounted into either the ceiling or wall(s). http://www.elanhomesystems.com/productdetail.asp?id=18 And, if you bundle Elan speakers with their S6 system (including the 6 keypads), speakers from any of their 4 levels/ranges, you also get a 10% bundle discount. For a 'higher'-end multi-room audio system it actually is really decent value... Re: NuVo Audio System 3Jun 23, 2008 2:28 pm Thanks for answering, Rodda - will get DH to check that out tonight , I do the colours - the technical stuff is his domain - as long as it plays Coldplay, I'm happy!!!! How about approximate cost of adding additional rooms?
I'd love to do this in my new house, but not sure of the costs. It almost seems like it would be cheaper to buy a separate audio system for each room:) Greg Re: NuVo Audio System 5Jun 24, 2008 7:33 am Alison,
Check this thread too: http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=6906 Seems to be pretty good value for what it does. DH should be happy with it! Cheers Re: NuVo Audio System 6Jun 24, 2008 9:44 am The Elan System 6 Controller (which is also the amplifier - 12 x 40WRMS) is $1999 RRP. It drives 1-6 keypads and 1-6 pairs of speakers in 1-6 zones/rooms.
The Z100 (or S6KP) keypads are $399 RRP each, and when run from the S6 they don't require any additional components to run (they get their power from the S6 itself). Elan In-Ceiling / In-Wall speakers start at an RRP of $299 a pair. As I said earlier, when purchasing this system as a whole (6 zones) Elan gives a 10% discount on the whole lot. Re: NuVo Audio System 7Jun 24, 2008 9:48 am The Logitech Squeezebox Duet system is a belter.
Remember this though, you still need speakers and an amplifier (and perhaps some control of the amp) for each area where you want to be able to actually hear what the Duet is streaming... And if you have more than 1 amp then you need to be able to connect the Duet (or more than 1 Duet) to each amp where you want to hear it. This is one area where a central system/amplifier becomes a clear advantage. Re: NuVo Audio System 8Jun 24, 2008 11:39 am Thanks for the link perry
Rodda -that (Logitech) was another one DH was going to check out - quite like the Sonos (?) Would you say one was better than the other, or is it a case of personal preference? Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: NuVo Audio System 9Jun 24, 2008 12:12 pm Hi Petal.
The Sonos and the Logitech Squeezebox Duet do pretty much the same thing (the Sonos has an 'active' (ie built-in stereo amplifier) version of their Zone Player, where as the Logitech only has the one 'non-active' version, meaning it requires an external amp), but the Logitech system is about half the price. That said, if you only plan on getting just one base station (Logitech or Sonos) so you can utilise your digital music collection, and connect it to just one amp (perhaps a multi-room amp), then there is yet another posibility: http://www.qualifi.com.au/index.jsp?ref ... uct=120878 + http://www.qualifi.com.au/index.jsp?ref ... uct=121320 (then you get the bonus of an awesome universal remote - a Philips Pronto one at that) Once you know the basics, the rest is easy.
