Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jan 09, 2015 12:54 pm Hi all had anyone had any real world experience in using resilant channel over extra plaster. My question is is it worth adding 2x 13mm extra sheets of fireboard to my room over existing std 10mm or removing plaster and fitting resilant channel with 2 x 13mm sheets. read that resilant channel does not work so great over plaster board due to 3rd leaf vibration? Re: Resiliant channel Vs plaster 2Jan 09, 2015 8:11 pm You can always ch eat and use Green Glue or Quiet Glue between the two sheets, rather than resilant channel. I'd simply just put one 13mm gyprock over the 10mm with Green Glue to save on expenses. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: Resiliant channel Vs plaster 3Jan 09, 2015 10:12 pm I can start fresh so resiliant channel is prob cheaper than green glue. However quiet glue is also available and about 30% cheaper than green. just want something that works. Cheers Re: Resiliant channel Vs plaster 4Feb 25, 2015 3:01 am I have used whisper clips, channel, 2 X 16mm fyrchek gyprock with Green Glue. Works very well keeping sound in and out of my room. Do it once.. do it right. Re: Resiliant channel Vs plaster 5Feb 25, 2015 7:19 am Whisper Clips = resilient mounts and then suspend furring channel that you screw the plasterboard to. You aren't going to reduce the minimum 2400mm ceiling height for a habitable room if you do this are you ? Stewie Re: Resiliant channel Vs plaster 6Feb 25, 2015 9:44 pm Yeh ceilings are 2450 so might just use double 16mm fireboard at this stage was going to do a 240mm step up at rear which i can always remove if i sell but im sure a buyer wouldnt be to concerned when they saw the room. I have decide to go 2x13mm fireboard on top of the std 10mm on all walls vertically overlapping joins should be enough for the rooms use has been easy to do at minimal cost. It depends how well you want to insulate a room. You can get it down to pretty much soundproof if you want but you'd have to use acoustic batts + resilient mounts and furring channel + two layers of offset plasterboard and green glue to be anywhere close to that. Effective or cheap - choose one. They are pretty much mutually exclusive. Just acoustic batts alone will cut down maybe 30% of sound from the room next door but it depends how important it is for you to soundproof a room. Have a good read of some of the guides in this link http://www.soundproofingcompany.com/ then you have to decide how much you want to spend on soundproofing a wall or ceiling.
