Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Nov 13, 2014 6:50 am Hi guys I'm a bit stuck on what to do for my family room setup.. I want to wall mount the tv up on the wall so it would look nice and clean, however I dont want a tv cabinet/bench sitting below it. Where could I put my foxtel, htpc etc? I've seen a setup where the pantry was behind the wall and the guy installed all his boxes in the pantry and ran a IR sensor to control everything, so it looked just clean with the tv mounted without any cabinets etc.. I'm going to mount it on the south side (opposite of alfresco) if you're looking at the floor plan below Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: setting up lounge room 2Nov 14, 2014 9:29 am Hi Kenny, If your having a theatre room directly opposite where the TV is going to be mounted, I would put all the gear in there. Then it is all contained in the theatre room (AV cabinet/hifi rack). This way you can just run from the rear of TV - HDMI & network cables up the through the wall, into the ceiling and back down the wall exiting neatly out of a bullnose wall plate to the equipment in the theatre. From the lounge, you could control switching, display sources from a sensor at the TV. Thanks Re: setting up lounge room 5Nov 17, 2014 7:22 am I have all my equipment mounted in a kitchen cabinet that is just outside the living room. I use a Logitech Harmony Ultimate to control the equipment in the cabinet. It has a radio link back to the hub that goes in the cabinet and it connects to your WiFi so you can also use an app on your smart phone to do everything the remote can do. It is a good idea to have a cable like this back from the hub to the TV so that you can stick an IR blaster there - this lets the hub control the TV. You can use the IR emitters in the remote handset to control the TV as long as you are in the room but then you can't use the smartphone app for the TV. It is easy to set up using "activities" such as "watch TV" or "watch a movie" - You touch the appropriate button and then the remote turns everything on and selects the right inputs. Where can I get this setup and how much would it set me back? Re: setting up lounge room 7Nov 17, 2014 9:12 am kenny_geee Where can I get this setup and how much would it set me back? The link in my message takes you to the product at Dicksmith.com.au where it is on special today for $279 - but if you search in google you will find a number of other places also selling it for around this price too. Re: setting up lounge room 8Nov 17, 2014 9:17 am kenny_geee Where can I get this setup and how much would it set me back? You can get the Logitech Harmony remotes from DickSmith stores, amongst many other locations, such as ebay. The one thing you have to get your head around is that you set up these remotes as "Activity" based, rather than "Device" based. This is where the remote is setup with buttons configured to "Watch TV", "Watch Blu Ray", "Watch Foxtel", rather than press buttons on particular remote which is "Device" based. Even the bottom end Harmony remotes are quite good, but when you start to get in to the ~$300 Harmony remotes, they control more devices and are more feature laden... very well worth it.
