Some routers do switching, but most cheap ones don't. An 8 port GB dumb switch is very cheap. I have single points to each room from my main router and switch area and then a dumb switch in each of those rooms to distribute it to the devices. It's cheaper to buy a switch ~$30 than pay for an additional data port. ~$90. Can you please link to an example switch? I had a very, very quick look last night and found 5 and 8 port giga switches but they were $80+ 8 Port Gigabit Plastic TP-Link SG1008D http://www.tp-link.com.au/products/deta ... l=TL-SG108 $25 at MSY. Unless you want to manage the ports or have a small office setup, a dumb (unmanaged) switch is all a typical home network needs.
