Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jun 06, 2008 2:46 pm We are planing to have wall hung LCD/ plasma TVs in family and home theatre ... do we need to get the builder to put noggins in the walls to hold them? Re: Do we need noggins to hang TV's on the wall? 3Jun 07, 2008 8:11 pm _Al_ Screw into the studs, not the noggins. Thanks Re: Do we need noggins to hang TV's on the wall? 4Jun 07, 2008 10:45 pm Duminda,
Feel free to put some extra bracing in if you like though. Just try to make sure it doesnt interfere with your cabing in the future. It certainly would not hurt to look at the spacing of your studs (the uprights) and make sure they are in line with the centre of the room or in the centre of where you want to mount the TV to the wall. A couple of noggins left in with some extra half height studs may help with Bracket placement/mounting down the track. Thanks Matt, One other question - the house will have steel frames ... will that make things more difficult when attaching the mounting brackets? Cabling won't be an issue as the frames have pre-cut holes for them. Re: Do we need noggins to hang TV's on the wall? 9Jun 07, 2008 11:39 pm Duminda,
It will change the method used to fix the bracket and the screw types used definatley. See if you cant "fill" the steel frame up in that section with wood to allow for a firmer fix. You will stille be able to fix a wall bracket but the wood may allow a stronger fix to the wall rather than the 1-2mm of metal IMO Re: Do we need noggins to hang TV's on the wall? 10Jun 07, 2008 11:39 pm Duminda mattwalker Duminda, Feel free to put some extra bracing in if you like though. Cabling won't be an issue as the frames have pre-cut holes for them. One thing we did with our steel framed house was anywhere where we thought we might run cables we asked the SS to put additional gromets around the hole in the noggings. You should see them where ever electrical cable or plumbing is run. You run the risk of taking off the insulation on the sharp edges and exposing the core of the wire when running cables. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Ditto 3M Claw, expensive but best thing I've used to date.
