Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Sep 12, 2014 11:09 am Hi all , I am currently getting ready to build my home and I wanted to know should I prewire the home theatre area during construction? If so what should I get done I already have extra power points and data point. Are their any suggestions to what I can install before building in regards to sound? The theatre area is quite small it will be 3.6 by 3.7. Thanks in advance Re: Pre wiring 2Sep 12, 2014 3:27 pm I just got through tender, and ended up getting the pre-wire packages through the builder (even if the prices are ridiculously high) The main things for pre-wiring are, single point GPO in the ceiling cavity for projector, and HDMI & Data cable running from projector location in ceiling down the wall to where your entertainer unit will be. Then obviously speaker wiring for all your speakers, all terminating at the entertainer unit point. and i also think a single GPO for the subwoofer (usually at the rear?) thats what I'm getting as part of the builders pack anyway.... (I'm no expert) I would much rather do it myself, however i am getting soundproofing put in the walls, which would make it very hard after handover Re: Pre wiring 3Sep 12, 2014 9:49 pm Depends on what your builder allows you to do. In my case, after framing, I ran speaker cables from the area I wanted the amp to be, to where I wanted each speaker to go (don't forget your subwoofer). I also ran HDMI cables from the back of where the TV (don't forget data point for TV; most Smart TV can be ethernet connected, and saves WiFi bandwidth) was to go back to the amp. I then measured and marked each point (had a nail to hold wires in place), and photographed the lot so I knew exactly where they will be after the sheeting went in. Re: Pre wiring 4Sep 14, 2014 12:36 am All depends on exactly what you intend to do and what equipment you will run. Ensure you have all your conduits done to support cabling required and give allowances for future expandability. A good start is enough to to run Data, Foxtel cables, and FTA TV Signal cable. If you are having a wall mounted TV, proper sized conduit to run HDMI Cable up, and also good Idea to put a Data point as mentioned for most Smart TV's will make use of this. If you will be running a projector setup then as others have said.
