Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jul 21, 2014 12:17 pm I will be having an amp to run multiple devices such as Foxtel, DVDR to a smart TV – I will also be wanting to access internet movies and the various smart TV applications and access movie from my PC located in another room – Do I need to have a data point located at the wall mounted TV to access the Smart features and stream movies or will I be able to have only one at that AMP that will then run all the above to the TV? More simply put – do I need a data point at the AMP and the wall mounted TV? Same will go I guess for the Theatre Room – do I need a data point only at the AMP or at both AMP and Projector? Re: Data Point Question 2Aug 07, 2014 1:43 am You need an individual data point for every device that will access the internet. If your Amp, Projector and TV ALL have features that require connection to the internet, they all need their own data point. In Most new builds where people will intend to have Smart TV's, a good idea is to have a data point behind the position where the TV will be wall mounted. They call it future proofing, I'm adding it all in as it costs me bugger all to do it whilst I'm building. In fact I'm even adding HDMI over cat 6 from my HT room to the master bedroom, lounge, and office so it is all done.... Cat 6 in a 305m roll is only costing me about $140, so it's so cheap to add it in now. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: Data Point Question 5Aug 28, 2014 3:36 pm V1SHRNZ Or if have more that one device requiring data you can have one data point and have a switch running to multiply the number if connections. Totally agree. Adding multiple data points in a room behind the TV will be more expensive. Good solution is to have one data port and have a switch attached to it which costs less than $60 these days. But if you are having a projector, good to have a data port in the ceiling as well for projector. But was wondering what can we do with the HDMI cables in these rooms. I thought I will be having extra TV points in master broom, living room and HT room. Is it for Foxtel? Re: Data Point Question 7Aug 28, 2014 3:41 pm That said if you looking to keep it clean better to have the data points where needed. I have opted for this in the all main areas and two in each room. Never know lol and to me i can justify the cost. Depends on your needs at the end of the day Re: Data Point Question 8Aug 28, 2014 6:53 pm Gaggy bpratt In fact I'm even adding HDMI over cat 6 from my HT room to the master bedroom, lounge, and office so it is all done.... I'm running hdmi over cat6 from the HT room to the other TV locations, as they all have at least 2 hdmi inputs. From the HT room I'll be using a hdmi splitter and hdmi switch to pipe content to the other TV's. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld.
