Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jun 04, 2008 4:16 pm My bf will not give up the idea of a Home Theatre room even though our budget and house size doesn't really permit it! He will just not budge. We do however have a rumpus room for our pool table, which is fairly large, and we squeezed in a theatre room but only its only 3.6x4m. Is there really any point for one at this size? Its just a sitting room to me, and we could just watch TV/movies in the family room.
What is the minimum size of a theatre room? Granted we only have a 42" LCD, but will prob look at getting a projector in the future, but couldn't afford to go crazy on the sound etc. Would it be better to use the Rumpus as the theatre room, and put the pool table somewhere else (as we do not often play it, but watch a lot of movies/tv)? That seems logical doesn't it? Re: Is there any point? 2Jun 04, 2008 4:21 pm newbie_builder What is the minimum size of a theatre room? You wouldnt want too big a screen at that distance if you go for a projector though! Things like in wall/in celing speakers can save space too, and can be quite reasonably priced. Im sure Rod or Matt will have some suggestions for you when they see your post. Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: Is there any point? 3Jun 04, 2008 4:46 pm Hi NB.
Ideally, a 4m x 3.6m room will be a bit tight, but many people still put projector/screen setups in rooms this size all the time. Probably try to keep the screen to a maximum of 100" though. The idea of using the larger rumpus room for the theatre of course appeals to the likes of me , but the idea of going small-time on the sound system does not ...... Re: Is there any point? 4Jun 04, 2008 4:51 pm Is there any reason why you can’t make the rumpus room multipurpose?
I’m just thinking aloud here, and although a dedicated room for the HT is a nice to have IMO it’s not a necessity, my concern would be if your budget is stretched building the house in the first place, how disgruntled will he be if he can’t buy the equipment to put into the HT. Re: Is there any point? 5Jun 04, 2008 5:30 pm thanks for the replies guys!

I'd rather have everyone watching tv in the family room, and its not like we watch alot of er "original" dvds anyways to make the best of a big *** projector! Building Standards; Getting It Right!
