Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 May 30, 2008 1:44 am I am looking at setting up my HT with the following items:-
1. Denon AVR-3808 7.1 Audio Visual AM/FM Receiver 2. Mitsubishi HC6000 1080p LCD Projector or BenQ W5000 DLP 1080p Home Theatre Projector (which of these would you choose?) 3. Pioneer BDP-LX70 Blu-ray DVD Player 4. Paradigm Monitor 11 Fronts 5. Paradigm ADP-390 Rears 6. Paradigm PW-2200 Sub What I need advice on is will a Pioneer DVR-LX60D DVD Recorder with 250GB Hard Disk and Built in Digital DVB-T Tuner fulfill the role of a HDSTB or will I need a separate unit and if I do what would you recommend? Also which of the Paradigm in wall centre speakers would you recommend that will match those above and would it be overkill to have another set of rears to make it a true 7.1 setup taking into consideration the size of my HT room? The HT room is 4.85m x 4.0m sound insulated and has a bulkhead running around all 4 walls & the ceiling. Re: Advice needed 2May 30, 2008 7:57 am HI mate.
The Pioneer DVR-LX60D only has a SD tuner in it, so you will need something else for receiving HD. As far as a decent HD STB goes, the Wintal one from Radio Parts is a good performer and less than $200. Now, as for a matching in-wall centre speaker to go with the Paradigms. Here, we get access to the CS and AMS series in-walls, and of those 2 ranges the only speaker that truly matches the capabilites of the Monitor 11s is the AMS-350, which is not an LCR - ie when mounted horizontally it's tweeter will be at one end, away from the centre, which is not really what you want if you can help it. Add to that the fact that it's a $825 speaker on it's own. I recommend having a good look at the Mordaunt-Short AW162. It is an LCR, so it's tweeter is centred, it performs at the same high level as the AMS-350, but only retails for $549 a speaker. For higher-end In-walls, the Mordaunt-Short Avant Architect speakers are an absolute bargain! They are exceptionally clean, especially in the mid and high frequencies (which means excellent detail), are very efficient (so you get more out of them with lower powered amps) and can handle a ton of power if you so desire. Re: Advice needed 4May 30, 2008 10:04 pm Yes I have but have also been to Encel, Audiotrends, Tivoli & Klapp. Looked and listened to several speaker setups (Paradigm Monitor 11, B&W 683,Whatmore Performance & Subsonic) but prefered the sound of the Paradigm's for a HT application.
I currently have a Pioneer plasma and DVD recorder and am extremly happy with them hence the desire to get the DVR-LX60D, of all the AV recievers I've seen that I can afford I like the Denon best. Am still undecided on the projector as I have been unable to directly compare them at the one location although I like both in the end price will probably decide. So which projector would you recommend? Re: Advice needed 5May 30, 2008 11:38 pm Martyme,
I have the Paradigm Monitor 11's with the cc390 centre! I love them. I have a Benq W20000 ... I also love it! You may also want to check out the Marantz SR 6002/7002/8002 series of amps if you like the Denon gear.
