Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Apr 28, 2014 4:23 pm Hello All We have decided to go with Carlisle builder for our new home is Melbourne. Floor plan is selected and home design is selected. But before I sign up with deposit, I want to make sure that Carlisle spectra showroom offers the following in home automation 1. Automation of Lights 2. Automation of blinds 3. Temperature automation 4. Support of HD-T wiring 5. Security wiring 6. Multi source, multi zone audio/Video with 8*3 HDMI - T matrix switch 7. Appliances at competitive price (not insane markup) supporting smart home. I tried to get some information and they just say that yes we do it but dont give more information and ask us to wait for Electrical appointment. I am thinking of just removing electrical part from builders contract and look for a reputed home automation contractor. Have any of you worked with Carlisle regarding smart wiring? Will appreciate your inputs Re: Home automation & Aud/vid integration with Carlisle buil 2Apr 29, 2014 12:26 pm Half of the things they wont do it and other half would be very expensive as compared to normal market prices. You cant bring your own contractor during the build. The only option is after the handover. Cheers Re: Home automation & Aud/vid integration with Carlisle buil 3Apr 29, 2014 12:35 pm HDBase-T just requires standard Cat5/6 cabling with RJ45 outlets, so as long as you get enough outlets in the right places you can add the matrix switch after handover. (costing cannot be more then $5-$10 if you buy the cat6e wire roll yourself) $160 is high I agree, but your estimate is equally too low. 305m of reasonable quality Cat 6 is $130, so say 40c/m. A typical run is 30m, so $12 of cable. A Cat 6 socket is about $6, $12 for two (If you use a patch panel it works out about the same if you divide the patch panel cost by 24 sockets). Your "parts" are $24. Then you need labour - say $35 (I estimate about 30 minutes per run (This includes first and second fix) and my contract lists the electrician as $65+GST/hr - but that was 2 years ago). So, the minimum you could expect is about $60 or $68 if you have a 15% markup from the builder. I would say that you should be able to get two points run to the same location for extra parts, but no extra labour - so $84 or $96 Re: Home automation & Aud/vid integration with Carlisle buil 6Apr 30, 2014 2:55 pm paulw11 Nick2k 1 Internal data point costs you approx $160. Still $160 per switch by builder is really on a very high side. Still $160 per switch by builder is really on a very high side. That's one of the reasons I didn't go with a package builder. My builder was very flexible and happy for me to organise things like the kitchen, garage door, lights and flooring without any markup. I could also do my own data cabling as I have my registration. Re: Home automation & Aud/vid integration with Carlisle buil 8May 05, 2014 11:21 am Although I haven't worked on a project with Carlisle, we have worked with a few others. With the more difficult builders we have been able to gain access on a weekend just before insulation is due to go in. As for wiring, the electrical wiring will be different depending on the type of lighting automation you go with, you will also need speaker wire and lots of Cat5/6 installed around the place.
