Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Mar 09, 2014 10:20 am Hello all, I shall be building a home in a new area in the Timbertop Estate in Officer Victoria, which will have nbn. I will have a theatre room which is 6 meters deep and 5 meters wide, I do have the option to make this a little deeper or smaller at this stage. I have a budget of about 8k to 10k. What would people suggest that is a good setup for this type of room. I was thinking a 120inch screen, and a projector setup. I was also thinking of Paradigm speakers. What do people think would be best suited for this type of room 7.1 or 5.1 surround sound. I will also be getting cat6 cables threw the house, and may have a Electrical appointment in about 2 to 4 weeks time, any suggestions on the set up of the house would be helpful. Also any installers to set this up for me, that people have used and were happy with. Regards and thanks Re: 6 meters by 5 meters Home theatre room, recommendations 2Mar 09, 2014 12:52 pm If you have flexibility on room dimensions, getting using an optimal ratio can make it easier and cheaper for acoustic treatment that will still be required. There is a lot of research in Acoustics, but mostly for large scale rooms. Salford Uni UK did small room research, slightly technical... Link later, FYI From their long list, I picked the first, just as an example 1:2.16:2.96 2.4 h 5.1 w 7.18 l There are a few to choose from near that set. The hard part will be making sure the dimensions don't get altered on plans or in building. You didn't mention noise isolation, but just in case, you can get best bang for buck by using normal acoustic insulation, and walls of normal plaster, but by using 2 sheets of different thicknesses. eg 10+13 or better, 13+16, with a good Acoustic Sealant on ALL edges. Further Acoustic Treatment is always easier if the best fundamentals are used. I'll leave the electronic components to those more current with Tech. http://www.salford.ac.uk/computing-science-engineering/research/acoustics/architectural-and-building-acoustics/room-sizing-for-studios Re: 6 meters by 5 meters Home theatre room, recommendations 3Mar 24, 2014 7:22 pm For your av and electrical you can give me a call as I am currently located in Pakenham. Pm me for details Re: 6 meters by 5 meters Home theatre room, recommendations 4Mar 24, 2014 7:59 pm I have a room that is almost identical in size and my ceilings are 3.25m high. Check out krix. They have excellent speaks for all budgets. I think budget wise it will be extremely tough to finish the room. Pm me if you would like to discuss my proposed set up Cheers Mark Re: 6 meters by 5 meters Home theatre room, recommendations 5Apr 14, 2014 8:18 pm Hi Blish, You have a healthy budget and a great size room. There are plenty of good option for you to choose from in terms of projectors, amplifiers and speakers. It is simply a matter of sitting down and listening to a few different types of speaker / amp combos and matching that to a picture that you like to the look of. I would suggest 5.1 in this room but it depends a little on positioning of the seating. Depending on the type of house being built and the builder I may be able to recommend an installer but for a full service check out the guys at The Cable Connection for a great deal ... www.thecableconnection.com.au Cheers, Matt Re: 6 meters by 5 meters Home theatre room, recommendations 6Jul 05, 2014 12:04 pm tezzab If you have flexibility on room dimensions, getting using an optimal ratio can make it easier and cheaper for acoustic treatment that will still be required. If you can go for 2 layers of 16mm Fyrchek walling that would give good bang for buck. I used the 2 X 16mm Fyrchek with green glue and whisper clips and I keep the vast majority of sound inside the room. Just my opinion but Ted white who is a bit of a sound isolation guru in the usa goes with thick drywall X 2. Good luck with the room. At that depth you have room for an acoustically transparent screen so that all your main speakers are out of sight. Re: 6 meters by 5 meters Home theatre room, recommendations 7Jul 06, 2014 5:03 pm I would go with 5.1, that is too small of a room to be able to properly position a 7.1 setup. I'd be focussing more of the budget on vision than sound. Regarding cabling your house, there is too many variables, best is to decide what devices you intend to use in every room in present and future, then get a plan made for a structured cabling setup to suit your needs. Ideally if you want to futureproof, Data and FTA to every room, and include Data, FTA and Foxtel cabling to main room. But I do want 7.1 setup. The room will 6.5 meters long by 5meters wide. I am getting Cat6 to all rooms. Does any know where you can get a AV rack from. I'm finding it hard to find a good one. Also going for the paradigm speakers and either the Bneq 7500 or epson 9200 Re: 6 meters by 5 meters Home theatre room, recommendations 9Jul 06, 2014 6:54 pm My room is 6.15 x 5 and I am going with 9.1 but will have 11 speakers. Currently I have a 7.1 and then room is smaller and I lover it. Re: 6 meters by 5 meters Home theatre room, recommendations 10Jul 08, 2014 12:57 pm Blish 2 Thanks for the replys so far.
