Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation Re: need help for HT component advise 21Jan 06, 2014 2:26 am Brad, Typed a very long response that was long winded then accidentally deleted it...doh Amp wise if it has 7.1 and dobly hd and dts master I would simply try it out. I think you should budget for acoustic treatments of some description, home made or purchased. I would also possibly go sound screen (Rock wool) in the ceiling and consider what / how you will deal with windows. Two meters may be a little high as I would have thought that you want to aim the speakers so the sound is at ear level. I guess it does not have to be so precise. I would think about what format you will watch most, i.e. 16:9 versus 237:1 and how big you want the screen. I think RG already mentioned ot shoot an image on the wall and see how big feels right. Also some projectors now will have lens memory zoom to deliver similar to anamorphic widescreen (I think the latest Pannasonic has it) I would spend more on speakers as they do not get upgraded so often as tech advances are much slower than receivers and projectors. As you have a NAS drive I would also have a cheap computer (they are all cheap now) that has a blu ray player and then use a media program call JRiver. It will allow you to play blu-rays and access the media stored on your nas drive. All controllable from your Iphone. Very cool pice of kit for USD50. That would save the need for a Blu Ray player and you can bitstream from your PC (assuming it has HDMI). Last of all, where will you sit. Looks like one row of seating and maybe some soft seating to accommodate those that will come for the pix and flix.... Good luck..... Cheers Mark Re: need help for HT component advise 22Jan 06, 2014 6:03 am Agree with everything Mark has said. I think that the rear speakers may be up a little high. They should be about 30 to 40 cm above seated ear level. Agree on speakers too. Try the amp you have first and see how it goes. If it decodes the lossless formats then upgrade later. Spend the extra on speakers. I have a multi region Oppo 103 bluray player. awesome player, built like a tank and it means I can purchase discs from amazon us and UK at much cheaper prices. Cost me about 620 landed from the us. In terms of projectors, the Epson 9200, Panasonic PT-AE8000, JVC X35 all have great reviews. Check out the Benq dlp models if you want to go cheaper but they are noisier. I would hold off on screen size and just project onto white calico until you watch 10 to 20 movies and see what is comfortable to you. My screen size is well outside of recommended size and I love the immersion. My best advice on the projector is wait right until you are ready to purchase. New models are always coming out and prices are coming down. If you can hold out the 4k models should be affordable soon. Speaker packages from krix come highly recommended. Spend some money on 1 or 2 subs. They make all the difference. Nothing worse than a big screen and tinny sound. Good luck with your build. Re: need help for HT component advise 23Jan 06, 2014 8:22 am Cheers AM and RG. Good feedback I a will do a little more reading on some of the suggestions. As far as time frame I'm ready to go now. Re: need help for HT component advise 24Jan 06, 2014 9:16 am I will be in the same boat but roll forward 12 months as I am only about to start my build. Projector wise I am holding off as RG says but if it was now I would go Pannasonic AE8000 because it can do anamorphic zoom and is a good compromise while waiting for the 4k models to come down in price. JVC is nice but you would need an anamorphic lens to do CIH and while the pic is superior the cost is more than double the Panny set up. I will be channelling the saved money into speakers.
