It would help if you posted dimensions of your room, what you want to achieve, light control, soundproofing aims if any. The biggest mistake most people make is choosing the equipment without considering the room. All of the equipment you suggest us of a high standard. Personally I like emotiva equipment as its great bang for buck but thats my opinion.others may differ. If you could take a pic that would be great. Cheers. Greg. Re: need help for HT component advise 3Oct 24, 2013 8:15 pm my room is 6.5m wide and 7m long the room only has one big sliding door on one side but they will be covered by curtain to make full dark. 8 downlights are on the both side of the room, all full dimmable. i don't really care about sound proofing atm, i don't have neighbour yet. the wall will be dark brown/black after the wallpaper applied. 7.5M Dual Frontage terrace @ lightsview SA /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58754 moved in - April 2014 furnitured - August 2014 home theatre - September 2014 Game room - December 2013 moved in - 09 April 2014 Re: need help for HT component advise 4Oct 26, 2013 5:27 am Wow. That is a great size room. 7m long is awesome and with the width and throw distance that you have, a scope screen would be great. Assuming you have two rows of seats you could comfortably watch a 130-150 inch screen. I think you realy need to get a demo somewhere of both a 16:9 and scope screen to decide. The projector yiu have chosen is excellent for black levels. With a really large screen you may need more brightness. Particularly for 3d viewing. Depending on how long it is until you move into your house why not wait? Projectors are dropping in price and soon 4k projectors will be around for a reasonable price, which will drive the price of 1080p models down. In terms of soundproofing its not just the neighbours but your own home. No use having a great set up if the noise disturbs others. I would consider soundproofing at construction stage, as it is very difficult later. There's already some sound proofing, we can add more Acoustic Panels later if necessary. i enjoy big screen so we will have one row of seat, i am not too fuss about screen now that's why i didn't put it on my list. I will get the setup first, project it on the white wall first, see how big the screen i like most, after that i will purchase the correct size of the screen and mount it. 7.5M Dual Frontage terrace @ lightsview SA /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58754 moved in - April 2014 furnitured - August 2014 home theatre - September 2014 Game room - December 2013 moved in - 09 April 2014 Re: need help for HT component advise 7Oct 28, 2013 6:29 am Frozen, acoustic panels are to improve the sound quality. Within the room so that you can alter the mixture of sound reflection and absorption. It's not sound isolation. Sounds like you have planned out what you are going to do. Enjoy your room. Re: need help for HT component advise 8Oct 28, 2013 2:52 pm well, my installer today sms me telling me this combo will not work and will cost a lot of installation fee instead, he changed all component to jamo brand and Marantz receiver...i need to go thru again what's going on, if it's just downgrade or if it's because those brands are the one he can wholesale from... 7.5M Dual Frontage terrace @ lightsview SA /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58754 moved in - April 2014 furnitured - August 2014 home theatre - September 2014 Game room - December 2013 moved in - 09 April 2014 Re: need help for HT component advise 9Oct 28, 2013 6:11 pm Sounds like rubbish to me. Why won't the combo work? If you have pre wired for speakers what is the problem with install. I would be looking for another contractor or DIY. Of course we only have very limited info about your setup. All of the equipment on your list is of high quality but I'm not quite sure what you are asking here? Personally, I think that you need a higher power amp for a room your size which is why I suggested separates for your room rather than a receiver. Nit sure what your expectations are for the room and what you want to watch mainly at what level. It's best you put in the work, demo the gear yourself and tell your installer what YOU want Re: need help for HT component advise 12Oct 31, 2013 2:45 am i am asking if the components i chosen will work or not, if there's better choice...etc i am completely noob to HT, this is first time i have HT, so i keep asking. we will mainly use the room for watch movie and gaming, that's all. by the way, the installer replied me today the reason why he said they won't work he mean the in-wall speakers won't work in my room , my wall has many timber beams. big in-wall speakers won't fit, that's why he change all 3 front speakers to on-wall. 7.5M Dual Frontage terrace @ lightsview SA /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58754 moved in - April 2014 furnitured - August 2014 home theatre - September 2014 Game room - December 2013 moved in - 09 April 2014 Re: need help for HT component advise 13Oct 31, 2013 4:19 am Hi Frozen. Again... you admit that you are a noob to this and thats fine but you are looking at spending as much as a small car. Its a lot of money and what you really NEED to do is educate yourself more than some opinions on a forum. Personally, I don't rate in wall speakers. You have a great size room and I fear that unless you fully satisfy yourself you will end up upgrading way too soon. Why not have a look at avsforum.com and look at the forums for dedicated theatres. It will give you an idea of what is involved. .... much more than just choosing equipment. Please read up as much as you can. It can only help you with your choices. Re: need help for HT component advise 14Nov 02, 2013 7:58 pm Maybe some others can chime in with advice here. Re: need help for HT component advise 15Nov 02, 2013 8:54 pm +1 Reno. It is not an insignificant amount being spent. I tend to agree on the in-walls unless you are going high end. I live in Singapore and the high end in walls are very expensive (as in more than 5K for one speaker). I am looking at JTR with emotiva amps to do the business and depending on whether I have an AT Screen I may even look at Krix. I think when you consider freight and the weaker aussie and local service the Krix start to look more attractive. My room is 6250 x 5030 with 3257 ceilings and I am going for high angled wall mounts for sides and rears and the larger LCR for the fronts. Not sure on subs yet but back up plan is a couple of captivators but a couple of horn loaded would be nice. My brother has the top of line Paridigms LRC, sides and rears plus the sub and he likes the sound. Personally I think it was a lot of money however he wanted something aesthetically pleasing as well because the application is a large multi-purpose games. Mine on the other hand is a dedicated HT room that will be used for Movies, dance and games but first and foremost movies. Read up on AVS Forum on the home builds and go to some demo set ups and listen. I listened to many in-walls before concluding that to get the sound I wanted I would have to spend a heck of a lot more that could be better spent elsewhere. Cheers Mark Re: need help for HT component advise 18Jan 05, 2014 12:16 pm Missy. ....it takes all types. There are some great people out there though Re: need help for HT component advise 19Jan 05, 2014 9:42 pm I’m ready to set up my home theatre, it has been pre wired as part of my building package, it has the following: I have projector and HDMI cables in the roof space. I have power point in the roof space. Wiring to wall plates for a 7.1 audio system, the wall plates are for the surround speakers and are situated 2m high from the floor on the rear and side walls. The room dimensions are 3960 wide by 4340 long with ceiling height of 2829 around the outside and in the centre section of the recessed ceiling is 3086 high. The four surround wall plates for the surround speakers are just over 2 meters from the floor to the bottom of the wall plate. So what I want/think I need is: Speaker package Projector and mount Fixed Screen Blue-ray player Have I missed something? I would really like all the gear installed as well as I really want the best for my money? Without amp, my budget was about 8K. Now, I have my old amp it’s a Yamaha RX-V3800. Do you think I could utilise this amp or should I look for something different to match your potential suggestion? I have 4 data points going into my theatre room and I run a NAS for all of my media. Re: need help for HT component advise 20Jan 06, 2014 2:26 am Brad, Typed a very long response that was long winded then accidentally deleted it...doh Amp wise if it has 7.1 and dobly hd and dts master I would simply try it out. I think you should budget for acoustic treatments of some description, home made or purchased. I would also possibly go sound screen (Rock wool) in the ceiling and consider what / how you will deal with windows. Two meters may be a little high as I would have thought that you want to aim the speakers so the sound is at ear level. I guess it does not have to be so precise. I would think about what format you will watch most, i.e. 16:9 versus 237:1 and how big you want the screen. I think RG already mentioned ot shoot an image on the wall and see how big feels right. Also some projectors now will have lens memory zoom to deliver similar to anamorphic widescreen (I think the latest Pannasonic has it) I would spend more on speakers as they do not get upgraded so often as tech advances are much slower than receivers and projectors. As you have a NAS drive I would also have a cheap computer (they are all cheap now) that has a blu ray player and then use a media program call JRiver. It will allow you to play blu-rays and access the media stored on your nas drive. All controllable from your Iphone. Very cool pice of kit for USD50. That would save the need for a Blu Ray player and you can bitstream from your PC (assuming it has HDMI). Last of all, where will you sit. Looks like one row of seating and maybe some soft seating to accommodate those that will come for the pix and flix.... Good luck.....
