I'm planning to get one of these Ikea tv units but with concealed cabinets and in white without the legs. http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/S69001115/ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The theatre room is 4 x 4m. Not a huge fan of drilling holes on the wall, and since its a double brick build, there is possibly no chance of hiding the cables behind the frame, except to use a cable concealer (more drilling) and paint it to the wall color. Will have quite a few cables to hide as well for devices such as home theater, and multiple gaming consoles. Any advice from the techperts here? Thanks in advance My lil two storey build in WA https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63516 Re: TV - To mount or not to mount? 2Jul 16, 2013 9:29 am For our lounge, I wont be. I am not a huge fan of seeing wall mounted TV's in display homes, particularly with the height some are mounted! We'll be leaving it on a cabinet for ourselves. Our theatre will have a wall mounted projector screen but thats a different story I guess... Re: TV - To mount or not to mount? 3Jul 16, 2013 11:10 am Since you are going to have a cabinet you can just use the stand. The other option is to use the Framsta panels to create a false 'wall' to which you mount the TV. You then hide the cables behind the panel. If you have an AV surround receiver that can manage all of the HDMI & other video connections then all you need is power, one HDMI and an antenna cable to the screen. In my case, I didn't want a cabinet, so I wall mounted the TV and installed all of the gear remotely in a cupboard (it is actually in a cabinet in the kitchen which is next to the theatre room) Re: TV - To mount or not to mount? 4Jul 16, 2013 2:42 pm Thanks guys for the feedback. I was looking at the Framsta too but wife's not liking the looks of it. She wants the cabinets mainly for extra storage, as it does comes with a lot of space to store other things. Worse come to worse, might just drill a wall bracket for the tv and find some kind of adhesive for the cable concealer thing My lil two storey build in WA https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63516 Re: TV - To mount or not to mount? 5Jul 21, 2013 9:14 pm If it's a Double Brick Wall it is possible to conceal the cables through the wall cavity, I've done this for many clients. Rest comes down to personal preference, just remember once you drill, the hole stays there. You can get Adhesive Conduit that adhears to the wall to conceal cables. I think that camouflage is much better than drilling holes in that walls, as holes are not easy to hide and looks awful on the walls. Re: TV - To mount or not to mount? 7Sep 19, 2013 6:21 pm I'm having my 42 inch TV mounted on a wall so it is at a reasonable eye level when seated. As I will eventually upgrade to something in the 55 inch category, I will make sure there is enough clearance above my media centre. Also make sure the mount is rated for the weight of a TV you may upgrade to in the future. I also suggest that the conduit is generously sized to allow cables to be easily changed in the future. We're doing similar - I'm mounting the living room tv (because small children run around that room) but Hubby will do as he pleases - possibly mount, possibly not. If not I will demand it be strapped down. Hrm. I'm building a wall unit around it (talk to your kitchen supplier and see what they want to build you something similar - you might be surprised - I'm getting something extraordinary built for about $2k I think) and I'll do a false back where the TV is to hide the cables. If what you describe is correct then the brick wall has been dry lined with villa board. That basically means that the villa board is glued to the brick wall with… 3 8547 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair But if it is a ground level open pit, then it is not a charged system.
