Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jul 03, 2013 8:47 pm Hey everyone, In need of advice for our build. We're about to sign contracts with our builder and the 'may' let me install 32mm conduit during build in theatre, bedrooms and study for a post build backbone to be wired of cat 6 however if at worst they won't let us what are our options post build? I'm hoping they will as we have a tin roof so no removal of tiles later to get down exterior walls. Any advice appreciate guys. FYI - I won't be wiring anything myself just making it easier for my installer later and some pipes in bedroom are for future use when we have kids or for possible nbn. Re: Post build cabling 2Jul 04, 2013 1:00 pm What type of walls do you have? wooden frame with external brick? If you have wooden frames you can get your cabler to install wires into your walls post build, he shouldn't have much of a issue, it will just be more labour, it will most likely cost you more though then getting it done with pre-installed conduit. Just think ahead for island benches and the like as these don't have a path from the roof so doing them post build(as far as i know) would be impossible. Re: Post build cabling 3Jul 04, 2013 1:41 pm Yeah none of it will be electrical, all data only. My exterior is brick on stud frame. Its not the interior walls the worry me, its more not being able to lift the roof to get down the exterior cavity areas where the roof meets fascia because of the roof pitch being so low. Thanks for the feedback Ice! Re: Post build cabling 4Jul 05, 2013 3:29 pm Post build If you want the Wallpoint/Cables on External walls can be done and as you mentioned it is harder to do with Colourbond roof but possible Internal walls if there is an existing conduit that example TV Cabling runs through and depending on size of that conduit and what other cables it's shared with data cable can be ran through. Internal walls with no Conduit can't be done without hacking the wall away to install cable post build then seal it back up + re-paint if you want the cabling to be not visible. Else on Internal walls without touching the wall you will have to run an External rectangular Conduit that will be visible. Cheaper. Hopefully Thursday when I go to our contract meeting they will tell me if I can run conduit or not... they have been suggesting yes but you never know... Re: Post build cabling 6Jul 11, 2013 4:15 pm Had our meeting today. After earlier telling us 'probably not', the Rep came in today and asked what exactly wanted to do. We said just conduit from wall cavities to in roof and he said fine except no fixing into studs (ie nothing that can poke out and damage plaster as its fitted). So we can drill, run conduit, then put something around the pipe to stop it sliding down the cavity and we're all good! Even said it doesnt have to be a registered installer just us. BOOYAH! Probably best news today, apart from signing the contract! All good then I guess for my installer later on massive help to us! So what size conduit should I be putting in here? 32mm or something similar? They'll be used for HDMI and I assume network will have to ask my installer but just interested. Re: Post build cabling 7Jul 13, 2013 10:56 pm If you plan on putting HDMI cables through 32mm is on the safer side, as smaller conduits may not fit all HDMI Cable heads through easily. If HDMI is not a must then 25mm Conduit will be fine for DTV, Foxtel and Data. Is there a specific conduit I need to be using to keep my sparky/installer happier later on or compliant? Re: Post build cabling 9Jul 21, 2013 9:17 pm No Specific conduit, so long as the internal diameter suits the cables you want to run through. You could even probably run some HDMI cables up a 25mm Conduit but a larger conduit allows for more expandability.
