The key to an automation system is to have it designed and work with the designer on what you would like to achieve. Most electricians are like "Yeah automation I can do it", Dont! With C-Bus there are many levels of trained installers, from basic to advanced. The training is not just a classroom, it takes years of experience and know how. With automation it is not just the system it is the back end integration and connectivity to your other systems that makes it great. Being able to turn you lights on and off from your phone while overseas.. what the point?. This is not what it is about. Its all about making things simple. Here is a few examples: a) Arrive home, open your remote gate, drive lights turn on, garage door opens, alarm disarms, and garage lights turn on - or you can have a few remotes and turn the lights on and off manually. b) Its 4am, dead of the morning and you are awoken by screeming smoke alarms, you get up and turn on you bedside lamp, open the door to the hall and the house it quickly filling with smoke, as you try to make you way to the kids bedrooms you struggle to find the light switches to help you see... and so on OR the smoke alarms go off and turn on all your lights to full brightness to help you out. c) You arrive at work and realise that today is 40 degrees and you forgot to close the blinds to keep the heat out, you know you are going to go home to a hot house and the AC will take an extra 30 mins to get rid of the heat - but its OK you have automation. The temp sensors has reached 25 deg and has checked that you are not home by talking to your alarm - The Alarm goes "yep, all gone for the day we are armed" temp sensor goes "great ill close all the blinds then, just in case its going to get hotter" These are just a couple examples, don't forget turning on the electric blankets, heated towel rails/floor heat, and removing those 6 gang switches with dimmers from your main areas, to one touch of a button to the perfect lighting levels. Mrees- about your fan controllers, I have installed hundreds over the years- never had an issue. Did you use an accredited installer and integrator, or just a sparkie? Just remember its all about the experience of the designer.. Using and properly qualified company also extends the warranty on the hardware. Re: Can you Prewire for Clipsal CBus 42Feb 19, 2015 12:44 pm @Built_Boards A certified technician of course. Wouldnt trust a standard sparkie with my setup if it was the only option I had left. Some good points above. Just remember people, its all a matter of money.
