Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Oct 07, 2014 11:49 pm Hey team, I'm in the design stage of our first home build. Having never spent any time in a house with a dedicated theatre room I need some help. Our customised plan requires a compromised theatre room with a 45deg cut in it. This is somewhat unavoidable with the house design. I tried to search for ideas for angle rooms but not much was found. Assuming because it is frowned upon. I plan on using it as a 2nd lounge room at times with young kids etc. but converting it to a movie room when the kids go to bed. It is away from bedrooms and will have sound insulation in all walls. Probably twin opening doors to the hallway I plan to use a 55/60" 4k LED TV for the image, a Yamaha 7.1ch reciever and 7.1 yamaha speaker package. The builder is helping out running cabling during construction, conduits for tv Mount, extra noggins etc. It's purely the shape of the room that I need help with. Can I make the corner piece work if I mount the TV on that angled wall and use a large corner lounge to set 6 adults? Here is a zoomed section of the house plan. You can then have an ottoman/coffee table in the middle that you can move to the side for the kids to play Re: Help with design choices for a triangle room 4Oct 08, 2014 2:23 am To be honest I don't understand all the technical hype and effort some people go into for a home theatre. The advice given on this forum is good info but is rather overboard for the average family. We have a "cheap" projector/screen/sound system and the worst doors you could pick for a theatre (double hollow sliding doors) and a large ish window. Oh and we have a not so cheap recessed ceiling but that is apparently really bad for the sound as well...we didn't do any of the sound proofing etc and don't regret it. But I love our theatre room and am so surprised at how good it is even with all the perceived flaws people mention here that I don't consider an issue or even notice. The room is nice and flexible and can be used as a general lounge or a kids activity room. I wouldn't even consider paying to go to the movies now and we didn't go crazy Design and use the room in the way you want and in the way that works for your family Re: Help with design choices for a triangle room 5Oct 08, 2014 3:29 am Thanks Kat. Yes we will notbe getting all technical with this room. But because this house has a rare connection to NBN, which is not common in our locality, we want to unsure we get many years of service from this new feature. Yes we plan on using the room as a "night I at the movies" and don't put a lot of emphasis on the perfect sound stage. But one feature that SWMBO has put the foot down about is having wires hanging on picture hooks or blutack all the way around the cornicing. So a bit of forward planning is needed to position speakers at a suitable position around the room.
