Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 May 04, 2013 1:18 pm Hi, What we require: 1. Sharing HD content up to 8 TV point, (may be cable, satellite, Blue Ray, or Networked HD) 2. Distribute music across the network, some ceilling mounting speakers. 3. Get NBN ready, use all Cat 6 cable, 4. View security CCTV over TV channel. 5. Alarm send altert to mobile. 6. Future prove for new technology. 7. support up to 24 Data points. We planed to have 2 Data points for main entertainment areas, study, master room; then one each to bed rooms, Kitchen, outdoor, garage. Would that be sufficient for future use? Thinking about using WIFI for most laptops with kids. Is Hills Home Hub 600 be a good choice since no many choice from builder and I can't not have my cabler doing the wiring during construction. Because the difficulty to do it after hand over, we have to pay for high price for builder. our builder provide following packages. We don't know if it is reasonable for the work required. 1. Provide Structured Cabling $959.00 Package (without alarm system) including: Hills Home Wiring Network with: * (1No) Telephone Communications Hub. * (1No) Data Communications Hub. * (1No) Active Splitter Box (3 inputs, 6 outputs). * (1No) Wired Services Cabinet (S2203 600 series). Structured Cabling with: * (1No) Pre wired (CAT 5E) cable from Luka box to Communications Hub for future telephone, connection by others. * 1 (No) Pre wired coaxial cable with F type socket to Family Room from communications Hub (free to air t.v). * (1No) Pre wired coaxial cable from roof space to Communications Hub (Active Splitter Box) for future antenna installation by others(5 metres of cable left in roof space). * (1No) Single power point. 2. Provide Structured Cabling $2,300.00 including: Hills Home Wiring Network with: * (1No) Telephone Communications Hub. * (1No) Data Communications Hub. * (1No) Active Splitter Box (3 inputs, 6 outputs). * (1No) Cabinet with tamperproof lock DAS NX12 Security System with: * (5No) Sensors. * (1No) L.E.D keypad. * (1No) Strobe Light. * (2No) Sirens. Structured Cabling with: * (1No) Pre wired (CAT 5E) cable from Luka box to Communications Hub for future telephone, connection by others. * 1 (No) Pre wired coaxial cable with F type socket to Family Room from communications Hub (free to air t.v). * (1No) Pre wired coaxial cable from roof space to Communications Hub (Active Splitter Box) for future antenna installation by thers(5 metres of cable left in roof space). * (1No) Single power point. 3. Provide Hills Home wiring $1,545.00 package including: * (1No) 6-way TV splitter. * (1No) 8-phone patch panel. * (1No) 8-way data patch panel. * (1No) Single channel modulator. * (1No) Colour camera day/night at front door. * (1No) Wired Services Cabinet (S2203 600 series). * (1No) TV line-in from roof space. * (1No) Phone line-in from luka box. * (1No) Single Power Point. Any suggestions? Thanks, Gary Re: Hills Home Hub 600, Any one know it better? 2May 04, 2013 7:17 pm Hi The problem with the home hub type solutions is that they have limited space - you want up to 24 data points, but the 600 series can really only terminations for 8. I know Clipsal make a StarServe with room for 24 points, but it still doesn't have room for a decent sized switch to connect them to. You want to distribute HD video content - to do this over the TV coax is quite expensive as HD digital modulators aren't cheap. The most common way is to use the data cabling, either with convertors or increasingly with streaming over Ethernet - so to allow for this you will want two or three data points at each TV location. The modulator included in the package 3 above will be an analog modulator - so if you want to use that package, make sure your TVs have analog tuners (I think most still do, but they may start phasing them out soon in new models). If you can't use your own cabler then you might be better off seeing if you can get conduit installed from locations where you want data points - either into the ceiling space if it is a single story with an accessible roof space or all the way to your data panel (Garage is suggested) if it is two story or the roof space is inaccessible. You can then get a cabler to come and install data cabling after hand over. This gives you the option of using a small 19" rack in the garage, which can easily terminate 24 ports and mount a rack-mount gigabit switch. Option 2, in particular, seems quite expensive for an NX-12 alarm. I am sure you can get an alarm installed after handover for much less - even if you haven't pre-cabled. Re: Hills Home Hub 600, Any one know it better? 3Jun 05, 2013 8:05 pm Definetly upgrade to a Hills 1000 series HUB. Those packages don't offer much bang for your buck. If it is a single story home you can do most of your wiring after handover. Only need to pre-drill internal walls and put either draw wires down or conduits to allow wiring at a later stage. Getting a detailed plan drawn up will also help with working out where you might want items to go allow you to work our how to allow for future wiring. I had an old shower unit that broke on me and when I took it off, there were only 2 water pipes, instead of the normal 2 water pipes and a shower head pipe. Appreciate it. Its gives us a very idea. Kind Regards 4 3665 |
