Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Apr 17, 2013 12:12 am So my theatre is quite small, not the size perfect shape either but it is what I will have once the house is built and I was looking for some ideas on maximising on the space that I have in the room. Friends have told me that 7.1 would be wasted in such a small room and that I am better off going with a 5.1 setup, Mounting the wall on the Bottom wall as it backs onto a bedroom will mean that I am not shooting sound into my bedroom and annoying my wife. So the room is 3.8m x 3.3m I don't think I could viably put a projector in there so i will have to Wall Mount a 60 inch on the Wall. Do I need builders to put in extra support to support the wall mounting on a single brick wall? Additionally do you think I would benefit from any particular soundproofing or Wall Coverings? I appreciate any advice as im a little lost when it comes to all this. Get some extra noggins where the TV would mount for the bracket to screw into later on and also put some acoustic batts into all the walls in the room. As you have suggested a 60 inch screen will be perfect. Other than that get the speaker cables run during frame stage (2 at rear minimum) and other the cables FTA, HDMI, network all to where the TV would mount. My house is still under construction but i think on friday the painters are painting the room and on the 30th april the carpets will be installed . i am also adding a ceiling fan to the room also do not know how far in construction you are but just an idea to give more room look at a sliding door or even a double sliding door to the room. Re: Small Theatre Room Ideas?!!?! :? 4Apr 17, 2013 8:10 pm 1rocky ....i think all up on the wall of the cabinet where tv is there is 6 powerpoints and situated around the room another two double power points. One question regarding all those power points, will you be using any surge protection on any of the electronic goodies? Whilst it seems like a good idea to have that many points I think 1 or 2 double’s with a surge protection power board to suit how many electronic devices you have may be a better way to go - just a thought..... ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Re: Small Theatre Room Ideas?!!?! :? 5Apr 17, 2013 9:03 pm thanks pab yes will also be using surge protectors as well Re: Small Theatre Room Ideas?!!?! :? 6May 01, 2013 11:33 pm Who says you cant have a projector in a room that size? Of course you can and do it inexpensively too! (Cheaper than a big TV!) Have a look at the Benq W1080 Short throw 3D projector or the W1070 for only $989. Full HD, 1080P 3D that could do a 90" screen on your wall. Cheers, Matt Re: Small Theatre Room Ideas?!!?! :? 8May 02, 2013 1:37 am Yep agree with Matt..... I would look into a projector set up. If I were to go tv it would be bigger than 60 so that would make the projector set up a lot cheaper. Cost the options up, you would be surprised. Re: Small Theatre Room Ideas?!!?! :? 9May 02, 2013 1:19 pm How would you mount the Projector, would i need extra beams in the roof to support it? Obviously I would need a long hdmi cable running from the roof to the AV Receiver... ----------------------------------------- TIMELINE: Land Deposit Paid: 25 March 2013 House Deposit Paid: 19 April 2013 Re: Small Theatre Room Ideas?!!?! :? 10May 02, 2013 10:49 pm long cables are no issue. I think that any decent home theater store could advise on the installation requirements. there are a number of online supplies that can give you a ball park of costs for all in packages. Re: Small Theatre Room Ideas?!!?! :? 12May 04, 2013 5:16 pm i think in the right lit room the huge screen size and HD projectors are amazing. remember you are sitting back from the screen. Just immerses you more. Re: Small Theatre Room Ideas?!!?! :? 13May 04, 2013 5:46 pm I pretty much agree with what others have said regarding sound, 60” LED, sliding doors and soundproofing but I would not put the screen on the long wall as I think this will put you too close as the short wall is 3300. When it comes to power points I think you need to write a list of everything you will need one for and you may be surprised. I have 2 quads and a double and still needed a powerboard. Currently connected are TV, speakers, centre speaker, bass, DVD, amplifier, Foxtel, external drive, router, phone point, floor lamp, laptop, small fan-13 in total. Regards, Grumbles Re: Small Theatre Room Ideas?!!?! :? 14May 06, 2013 10:26 pm Tez-HG Isn't there a major gulf in picture quality between a good projector and a good LED TV. Doesn't the TV win this war? Not anymore! A sub $2000 projector will match and LED / Plasma in the right environment! A darker environment is definatelt required for a great image on a projector. Re: Small Theatre Room Ideas?!!?! :? 15Jun 16, 2013 3:39 pm You can have the one surge protected double powerpoint and then every normal double powerpoint down the line will be protected, so there's no need to have multiple surge protected powerpoints. You can also have a surge protector fitted to your switchboard to protect the whole house, not just the theatre room. Yes and no with the 7.1 vs 5.1, it depends how you sound proof the room, the quality of the system and whether or not you're an audiophile. If you have exposed plaster on the walls and roof the sound will bounce and you might as well have stereo with front and rear speakers. Place acoustic tiles on the roof and hang heavy curtains that cover walls, windows and doors and 7.1 will sound amazing. With the sliding doors, have them mounted inside the room rather than cavity sliders and this will allow you to hang the curtains on the doors for easier access. We have it mounted in the bedroom 5 feet from the wall and is producing a 100" image. Color, contrast and sharpness is incredable for a 1000 dollar pj.
