Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Apr 21, 2008 7:55 pm Looking at getting new AVR and speakers.
I have - 1080i 50" Plasma (upgrade to FullHD within 3 yrs) - PVR-HD via HDMI - Mediagate via Component (could go DVI) - DVD via HDMI (future upgrade to Blueray) - FoxtelIQ via Component (HDMI in future) - A couple of Composite connections (CD,VCR, iPod dock) I really want an AVR that will upconvert to HDMI. Providing 1080P is not immediately necessary however does future proof. Upscaling to 1080I and maybe further would be nice however not mandatory. I want a 2nd Zone for outside audio. Preference is to do all through one HDMI to Display. 5.1 speaker set is enough. The room is not a dedicated home theatre room, it is our family(5*5) / kitchen room (5*4). Will be used as main TV and entertainment hub. 5.1 cabling is being done by builder. Seeking advice on what’s in the market that I should look at. Thanks in advance Scot Re: What AVR should I buy 2Apr 22, 2008 8:18 am Hi Scot.
There are many decent AVRs that will do mutliple HDMI inputs to 1 or even 2 HDMI outputs, fully supporting 1080P. If you want to try to do some 'future proofing' then consider getting one that supports HDMI 1.3a (for all of the inputs and outputs) as this is the latest version of HDMI and supports the latest "Deep Colour" format soon to be seen included in Blu-Ray movies etc... You also need it to do video up-conversion as well, and depending on the brand and model the video up-conversion 'matrix' can vary quite a bit (models closer to entry-level may only be able to up-convert Composite video to S-Video or S-Video to Component Video, whereas 'higher-end' units may be able to up-convert everything from Composite video up to HDMI (1080P?...). Have a good look into the specs... Marantz = class leading quality.... As far as speakers go, there are so many, many brands to choose from. We absolutely love and endorse Paradigm, Mordaunt-Short, Boston Acoustics and Jamo, to name a few. If it's quality you're after, at least try to stay with a brand that has a known pedigree in speaker manufacturing. We're happy to make further recommendations. Looking at some of the designs on websites, they are all selling very similar products. I get that you want something stylish. It's worth looking for search terms like SaveH2O… 2 7009 i imagine you also have another contract with an architect? and yeah, whatever other's said about special conditions and appendices 16 16026 hey there! 😊 so, it’s kinda common for standard drawer depths to be around 500mm since most cabinets use this size to fit the usual runners… 3 20922 |
