Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Feb 12, 2013 5:31 pm Hi guys I'm just about to start construction on a new double story house, and looking forward to setting up my new theatre room, problem is I'm lost. The room size is 5.0m x 4.2m. I'm looking at getting a projector which will be displayed on the wall. That's where I'm lost, not knowing alot about this sort of thing wondering if you guys can give me some advice. I'm not a big movie die hard (yet) so sound and picture dosnt have to be the ultimate, but saying that i want something that will still sound good. Will use it alot to watch some big sporting games from time to time. Also any advice on pre wiring as the room is on the bottom level would be great or people's opinions on wireless transmitters for the projector Re: Please Help with Home Theatre set up 2Feb 13, 2013 8:37 am Mark, this site will help you with projector choice, throw distances, etc: http://www.projectorcentral.com/ Wireless transmitters are getting better, but you'll never beat hardwired for quality -- and if you're building from scratch, you should always hardwire. There's heaps of information sources out there, but if you're not 100% comfortable designing the room yourself, a professional would be worth a few hours. It's not something that's easy to retrofit! My storybook home build: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=57987 Re: Please Help with Home Theatre set up 3Feb 13, 2013 9:01 am Whatβs your budget mark? Our projector throws on a wall too and are happy with the result. I researched paints etc but as our set up is in an open plan we decided not to use a specialist coating. Our wall colour is an off white slightly warm, our projectors factory settings were described as slightly on the cool side so I found very little adjustment necessary. I am not really sure exactly how much I spent as many of my components were bought over a couple of years, the total is actually a bit scary. But spreading the pain out really helped. My main front speakers are almost 20 years old, but were seriously pricey when I bought them (ahhhh life before kids and mortgage) everything else is pretty up to date. Let us know your budget Re: Please Help with Home Theatre set up 4Feb 13, 2013 2:37 pm Thanks for the reply guys. Looking at spending under the 5k mark if possible. The projector a friend has is an Infocus SP 8600 for around $1700 which he loves. So may head down that path. As for the speakers not to sure, and how many I'll need. I'm sure a blu ray player is a must, silly question but do these play older DVDs or just new blu ray discs? Re: Please Help with Home Theatre set up 5Feb 13, 2013 2:39 pm If its a dedicated room get a fixed screen - don't use a painted wall. If not going to be used all the time, look at a motorised screen that can fold up when not in use. Either way - get a screen. Your eyes and that of others will thank you for it. If building, organise for a HDMI run (preferably 2) to be put in. Much more reliable than a wireless connection, and a good quality 10m HDMI run will be cheaper than a wireless solution. If you do want a wireless solution you can't go wrong with the Epson Tw6100 http://www.thecableconnection.com.au/Epson-EH-TW6100W--TW6100W---Full-HD-3D-Wireless-Home-Cinema-projector---100-Australian-stock.html Re: Please Help with Home Theatre set up 6Feb 13, 2013 6:49 pm I think I'm leaning towards the screen. Have looked at a few Speakers online does anyone know much about the Sony 5.1ch Blu-ray Disc Home Theatre System? http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... 1666472790 Re: Please Help with Home Theatre set up 7Feb 14, 2013 8:56 am Hi Mark, I would look for a system with a little more versatilty such as these options: Home theatre systems, then add a blu-ray player & digital box to it. You'll have to run (get) speaker cabling to all five speakers. A fixed screen with a size of 110"/120" should suit your room. As the others have mentioned a HDMI cable run from your ceiling projector location back to the front of the room (have a second as backup and add a CAT5/6 cable for future use). Power at the projector is also required. Other things to note; Make sure you spend the money to buy internal insulation ..best thing i did..so i can pump up the sound and the kids can still sleep in peace in their bedrooms. good luck smeags. ---->Some say that a recession is when your neighbour loses his/her job while a depression is when you lose yours!<----- Re: Please Help with Home Theatre set up 9Feb 14, 2013 4:42 pm Cheers for the suggestions guys, bloody hell it's a hard decision but I want to get it right. When it comes to the 10 meter HDMI Cables what's a decent brand? I've noticed that they range from hundreds down to $30 but I'm guessing the quality is poor, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Re: Please Help with Home Theatre set up 10Feb 15, 2013 8:07 am Hi Mark, when it comes to HDMI cables, expensive does not always mean better. I would just go for a couple of cheapish ones. Of the two I used the 9m ($25) cable is being used flawlessly instead of the other 9m ($49) one that the connector broke out of its moulding with little movement. I got the cheap from ebay and the other from a store.
