Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Feb 05, 2013 3:46 pm We have just got our electrical plans back which include data cabling and am not sure the reasoning behind the layout. I have noticed we have what the builder calls a C1D1 (1x Coaxial + 1x Data) point on the same wall as a TV Ariel Point. We also have separate data only connections on the same wall (2x Data points in the games and 4 x Data points in the Theatre). Our Prestart rep has said that the C1D1 is for if we want to connect a smart TV and the Ariel port is if we need to connect a normal digital TV. Is this right? To me it feels that the Coaxial points are redundant in these locations and would be better utilised elsewhere. Any thoughts would be appreciated. The second coax is more likely for Foxtel Paul Re: Coaxial & Data + TV Point & Data in the Same Room? 3Feb 05, 2013 7:39 pm If your in an NBN ready area, you only need the C1D1 connections. These points, along with an antenna on the roof, will be wired to the smart wire box most commonly placed inside your garage. Your remaining Data points in your home will also be wired to this box, and it this box that controls which data points control your land line and Internet connections. You will need both the C1 and D1 point to connect a smart tv, but if you don't have a smart tv, you just use the C1 point for digital free-to-air channels. 2 Re: Coaxial & Data + TV Point & Data in the Same Room? 4Feb 05, 2013 11:13 pm We are in a Veocity Estate (so no antenna on the roof but TV internet etc should come in through the Velocity box) Great so I was sort of there. So would I be right in saying we don't need the antenna sockets and could replace these with C1D1 for the same effect? Telstra velocity is run by fibre optic cable and is all underground. And yes, you are correct in getting the antenna socket removed. You don't need an antenna on the roof so the socket is pointless. 2 Re: Coaxial & Data + TV Point & Data in the Same Room? 6Feb 06, 2013 8:02 pm bkm2009 Telstra velocity is slightly different to NBN.
