Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Apr 14, 2008 2:14 pm Hi guys,
We are trying to finalise our electrical layout for our new house and I am wondering about watching TV in the bedroom. Generally this is not something I do but only because our PVR and Foxtel IQ are in the Living Room. I am suspecting that is is very easy to run cables from the living room to the TV in the bedroom. What sort of cable do I want to run? Our receiver is about 5 yrs old now and while still good it does not have HDMI (neither does the TV for that matter). We mostly watch recorded programs on the Foxtel IQ and sometimes from the other PVR. It is a fair distance (single story home) from the Living Room to the Main Bedroom - probably about 15 m Thanks for your help Re: Watching Foxtel etc in the bedroom 2Apr 14, 2008 2:42 pm I'm sorry to say this Kerrie, but it's not that simple.
You need to know what outputs you want to send the signal from either your IQ and PVR, or from the A/V Receiver, up to the same format inputs on the TV in the bedroom (Composite, Component or S-Video, analogue stereo audio, etc.). And, you will almost definitely need to run an IR repeating system from the bedroom to where the IQ and PVR are so you can still control them... Most of the systems 2.4ghz or 5.8ghz also have infra red repeaters built in (ie change channels etc) so that might be an options too! These simply plug into the output of your foxtel box and into the back of your TV in the other room and display the IQ without the need for wires. The quality is pretty average but then again so is foxtel in general (until FOXTEL HD) anyway. There is no real substitute for wired though and if you can run svideo (from and IQ box) with a stereo pair this is definatley the way to go... Personally, considering your layout (study/work desks in bedrooms), I don't think you have any other option but to leave NW windows and make them as big as possible e.g.… 7 10415 Hi, I'm planning to build a new house and wanted to get some feedback on the different window designs for a master bedroom.
