In short if you like your tv then NO!!!
You need a stud and there are lots of different ways to acheive this but I would suggest this:
The bracket mounts to the wall on the stud and the Tv remains in the alloted position using the offset of the bracket..
or this depending on how far away from the stud you are...
Use no stud at your peril
