Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Mar 25, 2008 9:05 pm Hi home theatre gurus!!!
I just bought my husband another LCD tv. We are planning just to use it for everyday tv watching as we have another LCD in our dedicated lounge room that has the Video (yes we have some old vids that we don't want to let go of) and the DVD etc with it - that we will watch movies on. The idea is to mount it on the wall and hide the cables/power points etc, and have no tv cabinet with it, just a stand alone tv as it has a built in HD tuner. I have read the forums and get the general impression that the right height to mount it is about eye height? Is that right? The room that it's going into is 4.52 x 6.15 - planning on putting it on the 4.52 wall. Does this sound ok - is there anything that I should be mindful of (have already told hubby - NO POWER POINT BEHIND TV - HOT SPOT!!). Is eye height the way to go - or could we afford to mount it a bit heigher to get it out of the way? Re: Height to mount LCD 2Mar 25, 2008 10:33 pm Spot,
Rule of thumb is eye height but then the clever people in some country inveted tilting brackets!!! YAY! Here's the hot tip for today: Put it wherever you bloody well like! Seriously! Don't get all hung up on where it should go and put it where eveyone else wants it. Put it wherever it suits you, your lifestyle and your room layout the best. Its not for watching movies on all the time so whatever suits you best is the best spot. Consider room layout now and down the track. Will the tv always go in the same spot? DO you lay down to watch TV? If i put it there will I have to lay back or tilt my head too much to watch it? Will the couches match the drapes.............. Ooh Whoops! You get the idea though... Re: Height to mount LCD 5Mar 26, 2008 8:55 am Thanks Matt!
The room is a big family/nothing room that is open plan with the kitchen. It has two couches in there that my husband was sneaking away to and sleeping on - but other than that - not much use. It is a nice big area that we always intended on putting a tv in, only just gotten around to it. The main lounge has carpet, and at the moment our place is incredibly dry and dusty and I was sick of vaccuming that room all the time cos you could see foot prints across it where people had walked, and I am a bit funny about asking people to take their shoes off. Plus lots of our friends with kids were worried about their little ones getting the carpet dirty, and I don't want them too cos it's going to get dirty at some stage! But the family room has floor boards, and this way I don't have to walk over carpet to watch tv, and people don't have to worry about their kids making a mess. But back to the TV! Personally I want it higher so it's totally out of the way, but there are two lights in that room, at either end of the room and if we put it too high, we would start to get the glare of the light as we looked up at the TV - if that makes sense. We will sort out a bracket first and then suss out where to put it. Maybe I could get hubby to put it on one of those drop down hoist thingers and raise it back into the ceiling or something when it's not in use! Maybe not. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ If you TV is mounted up higher and tilted down for viewing a bit then the lights from above are a non issue as the light wont be hitting the screen. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ As seen in these pics the angle away from the wall when tilted is plenty enough to stop the light hitting the screen 2 degrees should be enough! Re: Height to mount LCD 7Mar 26, 2008 9:30 am Thanks Matt
I might look into one of those. We wanted it mounted as close the wall as possible (but still safe for the Tv - not too hot etc), but if we could get something like that, mount it up high, and tilt it down a bit when in use, might solve the problem. Any brand recommendations?! Re: Height to mount LCD 8Mar 26, 2008 9:48 am Mount it on the ceiling.
Pro's: - out the way. - no light glare. - minimal dust collection. - can watch TV whilst doing the naughty (well, one of you can) Con's - can't change channel if remote is lost Re: Height to mount LCD 9Mar 26, 2008 9:52 am Cookiemonster Mount it on the ceiling. Does it have a vesa mount? what size is it? eg. 100x100 Do you want to be able to swing it out from the wall to watch in other area's? Re: Height to mount LCD 17Mar 26, 2008 10:39 am Mark,
