Anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand... What sort of things do you want out of it? 1/ How is it to be installed? Inside a cavity or on a wall? 2/ Is motor noise important? 3/ What sort of projector are you using? Do you need a hi-gain/high contrast screen? 4/ Is brand important? 5/ Is warranty important? ie buy a cheap one from ebay and not be able to return it for warranty or get s parts etc? 6/ What size screen do you want? These are all important questions when looking to buy a screen as the wrong screen can make a massive difference to your viewing pleasure Re: motorized projector screen... how much? 3May 08, 2008 4:07 am Hi Matt. Sorry for the long delay. Busy with work and big delays with the builder. To answer your question:
1/ How is it to be installed? Inside a cavity or on a wall? --preferable inside a cavity. 2/ Is motor noise important? --not too much. 3/ What sort of projector are you using? Do you need a hi-gain/high contrast screen? --no projector yet. but thinking of getting a 1080p (if budget permits) 4/ Is brand important? --nope 5/ Is warranty important? ie buy a cheap one from ebay and not be able to return it for warranty or get s parts etc? --not too much. 6/ What size screen do you want? --100" or 120" if price diff is not that big Thanks Matt. OK so you will need to allow extra money for a cavity/ ceiling install kit (hideaway box). These range in proce depending on your screen size but you should allow up to $1000.00 dembi_2000 2/ Is motor noise important? --not too much. The quieter the motor (generally) the more expensive. Most good screens seem to use Somfy motors and these are reasonably quiet. dembi_2000 3/ What sort of projector are you using? Do you need a hi-gain/high contrast screen? --no projector yet. but thinking of getting a 1080p (if budget permits) Ok if you are using any projector that is LCD of DLP you wont need anything other than a normal screen. In the days of CRT you needed extra things to make the screen appear brighter. dembi_2000 4/ Is brand important? --nope This opens up an array of possibilities. dembi_2000 5/ Is warranty important? ie buy a cheap one from ebay and not be able to return it for warranty or get s parts etc? --not too much. OK so you have your answer....jump on ebay! jUst be careful about the quality of what you buy. The difference between garbage and quailty is generally only a few hundred dollars. dembi_2000 6/ What size screen do you want? --100" or 120" if price diff is not that big The price difference b/w 100" and 120" can usually be managed quite easily. Some brands, if it is not a standard size, can charge a large premium for teh extra inches. Re: motorized projector screen... how much? 5May 08, 2008 8:29 pm Thanks for those very good info Matt.
I've found this in ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-100-ELECTRIC ... dZViewItem It looks very promising. Do you think it is? Thanks again. \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ Re: motorized projector screen... how much? 6May 08, 2008 11:47 pm Interesting info...
I am going to say I personally would not buy it. I dont like the look of the advertising...way too flashy and no real info. It is a 4:3 screen they are advertising too. Not for me but if you like it go for it...just remember my previous advice. Good Luck. Re: motorized projector screen... how much? 7May 09, 2008 10:07 pm Hmm. now that scares me.
I wouldn't buy it if you won't. I'll keep looking. No rush coz there's no house yet. Thanks again Matt. \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ Re: motorized projector screen... how much? 8May 09, 2008 10:18 pm don't write off the ebay screen yet, I was quite interested too and went through all of the feed back for him. 5000+ 100% positive, so there has to be something right with it! If I was to have a set up like Rod where it has to retract to watch my other tv then its got to be good, but it the motor dies and you can leave it down then hey.. bargain! I have had good fortune and like you, a horrible ebay experience, but sometimes the gamble is worth it.
