Hi guys

Ok I am hoping my link works...

This is the floorplan of our home, I asked a question back awhile ago about wall mounting tvs....I would love to know if by the looks of my floorplan it would be possible to wall mount a television on the following walls;
1) Family room wall backing onto rumpus
2) Rumpus room wall backing onto family room
3) Master bedroom wall oppisette the bed

If possible I would also like to have DVDs accesible from Family and Rumpus room and Foxtel available to family room. Without having to have cords/boxes everywhere...

Can you wall mount plasmas and lcds? Or only one...

1/ Can do!
2/ Again no problem...
3/ and here is ok too...

As for your foxtel box and DVD player I would be inclined to set aside a small area inside your linen press (the cupboard opposite the poweder room) to store these.

Using an infra red repeating kit you would have all the functionality and control of the units but with just the tv floating off the wall.

You can mount either PLasma or LCD to a wall.

There are all different types of brackets too. ie corner brackets, bracket that can come out and away from the wall and allow you to watch tv at different angles. etc

Thanks Matt - that is a great help!! I was just trying to think of a place to store the box etc and the linen press is a great idea!!

Would it get overheated in there? Or just give it plenty of ventilation space?

Also would I tell the electrical people for PD this so that they can do it all...or is it something that can be done post handover?

Lastly the big one - is it going to cost a fortune? Infrared repeating kits etc sound expensive!!

Thanks again Matt you are a huge help = I ike the idea of being able to watch the TV from different angles, maybe cooking won't be such a chore now

As for overheating in the cupboard it shouldn't be an issue at all. ( unless you keep a dryer in there too

)

You could try and get the "electrical people" at PD to do it but they don't generally 'get it'. Electricians are good for power etc but for multi room distribution of audio and video it is better to go to the experts...

You would nee dto have a,ll the wiring installed prior to plaster as in a 2 storey house it is near impossible to run cables later between floors.

The expense is not huge. The convenience of distributing Audio and Video around your home using cables verses paying for a DVD in each area and a foxtel box is much much cheaper over time.

The best thing is the minimalist look and the increase in usable floor space in your living areas. No longer do you need cables and DVD players and little tables and stands and cabinets etc. Simply a TV on the wall....thats it!

Thanks Matt - I agree the idea of less mess and more floor space is very appealing.

Are you guys in Melbourne? We are no where near building yet - still have to find land, but if PD don't 'get it' and can't do what we are asking I'd love for my money go to you guys rather than some other company

I should have asked before - would the DVD and foxtel box in the pantry downstairs do all rooms - family/upstairs living, main bedroom and rumpus? If it does - that is awesome! I didn't know you could do this :oops:

I'll be sure to ask closer to when we have our electrical appointment with PD - I wonder if anyone knows how flexible they are with 'outsiders' coming onto site to do such jobs....

We work on a very simple theory.

Everything we do has a WAF level. This is the Wife Acceptance Factor.

Sounds silly but it really works. The higher the WAF the better in most cases...

As for location we are in Melbourne!

The gear in the pantry can do the entire house. The limitation is that you can only watch one show at a time on foxtel. eg if you want to watch Fox8 in the theatre everyone has to watch the same channel. Its great though if you want to watch something and it gets late...you just continue watching it in bed! Foxtel IQ is great as well.

PD should be fine with us coming in to pre-wire your home.

The WAF level sounds great - I am the wife so its fine by me

I'll definatly get you guys out when we start the build process

We already have Foxtel IQ and will be bringing it to the new place -its great! As for watching the same thing throughout the house - thats not a problem either

Wow! I'm getting excited already!! One otehr question - would we need to have all the TVs ready to go, at the moment we only have the 1 plasma and plan on buying the others after handover - would this make a difference or can we simply connect it all up ourselevs after you guys have done the wiring?

I figured you were the boss from the name

I lurve my foxtel IQ box! It has become a mainstay in my home...

Keep the questions coming as it helps others as well.

We can pre-wire for most occasions and when the TV arrives with the wrong connections we have the adaptors to rectify most things.

In my own home I prewired for foxtel using s/video and the LCD i bought doesn't have and s/video connection. We simply dropped the signal back to composite with an adaptor and all is well!

As for the connections later of course you can do it yourself. You would more likely have us back out to install the TV's on the wall and connect for you though.

Other things you might want to start thinking about is media distribution ie cat5e cabling, foxtel points and aerial points.

Do you mean where are we going to put the points??

So in your opinion when we speak to PD electricals what should be the basics we ask them to do b4 we get onto you guys?

And at what stage would we call on you? Pre-plaster?
