Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 May 25, 2012 8:44 pm Hi all, We are just in the process of signing up to build so still a long way to go with regard to planning etc but would like to get a few ideas first. In our plan, there are a couple of areas that we would like to wall mount tv's - specifically the kids activity room, master bedroom and unfortunately the theatre room as well (although we may consider projector in there). Problem is the area we would want to put it is single brick I.e no cavity, so I'm wondering if we can proof this with the builder so we don't have to go down the path of cutting grooves into walls to try and hide cables or using those terrible looking box covers and painting to match the wall. If anyone has any experience with this or can lend some advice that'd be great??? Building and planning wall mounted tvs??? 2May 26, 2012 7:48 am Hi What will the final finish of the wall be? Rendered or raw brick? If it is rendered they will need to chase the brick (cut a channel) and install conduits for power and cabling and then fill with mortar and render over the top. If it is raw brick then I don't think you have much option - surface conduits Paul Building and planning wall mounted tvs??? 4Jun 13, 2012 5:03 pm For the conduits, we are wondering what the solutions would be for putting a HDMI cable through? We have heard they won't fit through a 20mm conduit, and would need to use 30mm conduits, but have been told that that can weaken the brickwork. Are there any other solutions? I saw some HDMI cables that one end screws off so you can get them down 20mm conduit, but they seemed to be in America, is there anything like that here in Australia? I have been supplying into WA for years and the 30mm conduit seems to work fine.
