We'd been given one guote of $77 per point to rough in only? Given we know NOTHING about data, except that people keep saying we need to have it building a new house with young kids/family, any info, advice, experiences good or bad, pros and cons, where we need it? etc would be greatly appreciated! Seeing I want to do about 20 runs, it's a significant outlay. Ok, I expect to pay a premium for being in Sydney, but come on, this is daylight robbery. Being a volume builder, they have their own subbies and wont allow anyone else to do the job. I assume fitting post handover will cost more, so we're pretty much at their mercy. I haven't responded to them yet, but am open to suggestions on what options we have to keep the cost down Re: Data Points - cost?? 4Jun 06, 2012 1:40 pm Hello, the only way to keep your costs down is to go with a 3rd part installer.. volume builders add AT LEAST 20% ontop of their trades to install extra's lik ementioned earlier data points in cat-6 should be somewhere between 85.00 - 95.00 ( including wall plates ) per run Electrical - Automation - Smart wiring - New homes - Commercial - Data cabling] 1300 050 315 www.cenemelectrical.com.au www.facebook.com/cenemelectrical Re: Data Points - cost?? 5Jul 17, 2012 9:42 am trayracer Pugs rough cost for new house should be closer to $90- $110/ per point fully installed We're thinking of going with a project home builder (haven't signed the contract yet) who have quoted me $170 per cable run!! They quoted us $172 here in Brisbane to install each data point. I have a mate who is a qualified electrician and data installer. Getting him to install them for me at frame stage. Re: Data Points - cost?? 6Aug 30, 2012 2:25 pm Hi, Have you look at wireless solution? It might be a solution to consider. Re: Data Points - cost?? 7Aug 30, 2012 2:44 pm Have you considered just adding conduit and blank faceplates to where you'd like future data points, then get them installed after the build? It would save on builder's markup and means you don't have to make a mess chasing walls after you move in. Except that it is illegal to install data cabling unless you have an ACMA registration. Also, many of the items sold on eBay won't have the required Australian approvals. Re: Data Points - cost?? 10Sep 29, 2012 10:18 am My data points were $87 per run + $10 if chased in to brickwork. That's for the entire run, terminated at both ends. That was for a contract drawn up four years ago, so prices may be 10% higher now.
