Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Mar 11, 2008 3:17 pm Hi guys
I'm looking for some much needed help... When we eventually get around to building our new home we would like to mount a plasma/lcd tv in the main bedroom and rumpus room. Is there any special requirements needed for wall mounted tvs? The walls we hope to mount the tvs on in the main bedroom and in the rumpus will not have anything on the other side of them eg. no other room, does this pose a problem? Thank-you in advance Belinda Re: Wall mounting a tv? 2Mar 11, 2008 11:36 pm haywgl,
Some good news! There are no special requirements... As long as your studs are closer than 900mm apart (and they all are) you will be just fine. Re: Wall mounting a tv? 3Mar 12, 2008 8:01 am What about if the sutds are off centre to where you want to mount a tv?
Would you ask for a piece of wood (not sure what you call them) to be placed in the frame at the position you want to mount the TV? Paula Re: Wall mounting a tv? 4Mar 12, 2008 8:49 am Yay Thanks Matt!
Can I also ask...where do all the cords go if there is no room on the other side of the wall and how would I access them to switch things off at main power etc? (I hope I am making sense) Also for people who do wall mount tvs where do you put extras such as dvd players and foxtel boxes if you don't use an entertaintment unit for things to go in? I really LOVE the look of wall mounted tvs and find them safer with young children, but I always wonder where everything goes!! Re: Wall mounting a tv? 5Mar 13, 2008 12:18 am Paula,
Studs off centre doesnt matter with today brackets. Studs are generally at 600mm centres and the brackets allow for up to 350mm either side (they are about 800 wide) so it doesnt matter where the studs are usually. haywgl, As for hiding the "gear" there are several ways to do it. You could buy a floating shelf and have it all up on that at or above the tv height. You could have it all in another room. One of out latest installs was a foxtel and dvd player in a linen press and the tv out in the lounge / living area mounted up on the wall. The "gear" is controlled via and infra red repeating system and acts like its was in the room but with out and clutter or cables . These add $$ but with young ones they are a godsend. I have a tv mounted in my main living area: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This TV runs foxtel IQ and an ethernet media player via cables all installed in the walls. It has infra red repeating also! The kids get the watchabilty and we get the look! Win Win!! Thanks Matt, answering all these question on here saves me making a fool of myself when it comes time to do it!! I now might be able to tell DH how to do something. Its much more traditional to mount it in the bedroom. But whatever takes your fancy. Maybe take it out to dinner first. Some flowers never hurt either. Thanks Matt - your tv looks really good! I agree - tvs/cables at little kids height just doesn't sit well with me (well atleast with my kids who want to touch EVRYTHING in their sight) Update from me! Couldn't find the trimmer - not sure if there isn't one simply because the eave is so narrow. Went ahead with the spring toggles and it all worked out… 7 5877 Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5196 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16156 |
