They do have benefits in terms of their ability to retro-fit to an existing house (which can help with expandability in a new house - install standard switches now and upgrade later), but I find that they are limited in terms of the switches you can use. With C-Bus you can match the switches to the rest of the powerpoints etc in your house. Also, these systems aren't that much cheaper than C-Bus, particularly if you do the C-Bus programming yourself (and if you are contemplating the Zigbee systems then you need to have a certain degree of technical ability). Paul Re: I have a hub system but have no idea how to setup! 24Dec 11, 2012 8:59 pm I think C-Bus is good but expensive just to turn lights on and off. Re: I have a hub system but have no idea how to setup! 25Dec 18, 2012 1:29 pm Hi just a short note of thanks to Mat from the Cable Connection. Jumped onto the phone and spoke to him, pointed me in the right direction and gave a newbie some advice. Greatly appreciated. Thanks and Merry Christmas Shannon Re: I have a hub system but have no idea how to setup! 26Feb 13, 2013 11:45 pm mike- Again, stupidly, cables are cat5e not 6. It's not ideal or strictly by the rule book, but provided the Cat 5 has been run properly (strictly to the rule book!), if you terminate all four wires in a Cat 5 cable, it will run at near Cat 6 Gigabit speeds (with a Gigabit switch), particularly on short runs (like inside a house). Ask a proper network cabler to do this for you down the track (especially when you get NBN). It's not as good as proper Cat 6, but you will definitely be far better off. Re: I have a hub system but have no idea how to setup! 27Feb 15, 2013 6:51 pm Cat5e is rated for GBE... just not for 10GBE so with at least Cat6 you are "future Proofed" enough for that if the runs are under 35m Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal You must be new to the internet.
