Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Mar 31, 2012 11:33 pm I'm towards the business end of deciding on a home plan and need some advice on floorplan of the HT. As you will see the current HT plan is to have 2 entrances on either side of room and a recess for speakers and electronics. Not sure if I should convert it to having sliding or french doors in the middle and delete the recess. I'm just concerned bout a) layout of room b) whether it will look weird. Right now we have planned to keep the side entrances and put door frames. ALSO - we have the ceilings in the HT to 32c, to go to 28c we would get a very small credit back. Also we have high awning windows. Any commentary, advice would be appreciated on doors and in general. See below. the first one is at 28c. Terry Montlick Labs Room Dimensions Calculator This calculator implements the formula for best room dimensions proposed in 1996 by Robert Walker of the BBC. It's been adopted as a standard by both the European Broadcasting Union and the International Electrotechnical Commission. It is simply this: 1.1w/h <= l/h <= 4.5w/h - 4 where l, w, and h are the room's length, width, and height, respectively. The other rule is that no room dimension should be within 5% of any multiple of another room dimension. ยฉ 2003-2008 by Terry Montlick Laboratories. All rights reserved. www.tmlaboratories.com Enter the room height: 2.4 Room length must be between 3.1 and 6.8 but not between 4.6 and 5.0 Enter the room length: 4.8 You must use a larger or smaller room length Room width must be between 3.2 and 4.4 Enter the room width: 4.0 Now for 32c Enter the room height: 2.7 Room length must be between 3.5 and 7.8 but not between 5.2 and 5.8 Enter the room length: 4.8 Room width must be between 3.5 and 4.4 Enter the room width: 4.0 This room has good dimensions! I went through the same thing with my HT room. I went with one door and moved the window so that I could put speakers either side. I assume that you are going to orient with seating across the 4m and use the length to project. If it were me I would remove the door closest to the outside wall. One thing you could consider is moving the outside wall out so it is in line with the garage. That would give you more throw for a bigger screen and also provide a little more space. This would mean that the ceiling would need to be dropped to 28c which the credit might pay for the increased length. If ceiling is 28c then as long as the length is more than 5.1 you should be fine. Then what may work is you have a riser with 3 rear seats and the door opening and then the front could be 4 seats. I would get rid of the recesses as well, you should get a credit for only using one door as well. Specify a solid core door too. Would have to play around with it a little. I would put the equipment on the floor beneath the screen is some sort of shelving with doors covered with GOM fabric. I am no expert and its just my opinion but this is similar to what I am doing and I don't want to go overboard but at the same time I intend to geta lot of use out of it.
