Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Feb 08, 2012 10:55 am Under advice from our electrician we currently have 2 x coax and 2 x cat6 running to all TV's in our house from our study. Our plan is to send our free to air TV signal and Foxtel, in the future, to our study then have some sort of switch set up to send the signal to all our TV's from there. We would also like to have our DVD and PVR in the study so they are accessible to all TV's. I think we want a Matrix switch, but am not certain. Also can anyone recommend a brand or model that will take the coax and cat6? Our electrician has a similar set up in his place and he did recommend a box however I can't for the life of me remember the name of it or the type of switch he as talking about and he is uncontactable at the moment. We understand with the above set up the Foxtel will have to be on the same channel on all TV's or is it possible to split this as well? Recommendations for our wiring set up 2Feb 08, 2012 3:22 pm Hi You don't need a matrix switch for the coaxial cable - it can just be split and sent to the required locations. Check if you are in a Foxtel satellite area as if you are you should run two coaxials for Foxtel plus one for free-to-air to each location where you want a box - this will allow you to have the Foxtel IQ or IQ2 HD service if you want. If you have Foxtel cable or Telstra Velocity then you only need one cable for the Foxtel box. If you have one Foxtel box located centrally then you can use converters to send the component or HDMI signal over the Cat5/6 cable (and I would suggest Cat 6). In this scenario you can only watch one Foxtel channel at a time. You can use a HDMI matrix switch to send BluRay & Foxtel over the Cat6 cable, but this can be troublesome - for $100 each it might be easier to buy a BluRay player for each TV. This is the matrix I purchased - http://www.jamellcables.com.au/hdmi-matrix/hdmi-4x4-matrix-by-cat5e-6.html but unfortunately the remote control repeater function doesn't work with Foxtel (they added that information to the page after I purchased it ) Paul Re: Recommendations for our wiring set up 3Feb 09, 2012 12:02 pm Hmmm did wonder if it would end up being easier getting a DVD for each TV. We are in a Foxtel cable area so ok on that front. This converter for the Foxtel you are talking about, any suggestions on one?
