Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jan 14, 2012 6:38 pm Hi everyone i have a pc in one room and a stereo in another room that i want to connect. The run would be just under 30 metres through walls and roof. the cable needs to go from 3.5mm stereo plug to 2 rca. Should i use twin rca cable or can i use the 2 in 1 cable like used in 3.5mm stereo cable for the run? Re: audio from pc to stereo in another room 2Jan 14, 2012 11:10 pm Use rg6 cable with f-type connectors, and f type to rca adaptors.. then us rca to 3.5mm cable.. well that is one option. Quick question. How are going to control it? Another option is a network music player... Or any media player that can do streaming... That is if you already have a wired or wifi network Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: audio from pc to stereo in another room 3Jan 16, 2012 1:32 pm Once again I'll suggest iTunes on the PC paired with an Apple AirPort Express hooked up to your amp, only $120 assuming you have an existing wireless network and an iPhone/iPod Touch to control it. Works well, lots of features for a reasonable price. Easy to extend the music to other rooms with extra AirPorts & powered speakers and then switch rooms on/off or change volume from the PC or iDevice. Sorry if I'm coming off as a fanboy by always suggesting these, I'm actually an oldschool PC guy, but I just find the AirPorts Expresses really good at doing music streaming on a budget that Sonos can't touch. Re: audio from pc to stereo in another room 5Jan 17, 2012 6:10 pm Thanks for the replys. I do indeed have a wireless network and a tablet that i can use to control the music on the pc. I was thinking a wireless av sender receiver but might get a wireless player instead. No ipod/iphone in this house so will have to look at other things. Cheers Re: audio from pc to stereo in another room 6Jan 17, 2012 11:38 pm rare thing..Airport express +2 < forget it is apple.. it is one of the best ways of getting music around the house bar having MRA already set up Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal audio from pc to stereo in another room 7Jan 18, 2012 4:34 am searay Thanks for the replys. Cheers If you mean that you simply don't have iPod/iPhone then you can get an 8gb iPod touch pretty cheaply - certainly cheaper than other touch screen remotes for multi-room systems. If you mean that you don't have Apple products for ideological reasons, then fair enough. Paul Re: audio from pc to stereo in another room 8Feb 07, 2012 10:29 pm Have you considered any of the Sonos gear? As long as your tablet is running android you can use it to wirelessly control the Sonos system. If you want something portab le check out the PLAY:3 ... It packs a mean punch! http://www.thecableconnection.com.au/de ... searchview Re: audio from pc to stereo in another room 9Aug 24, 2012 2:34 pm Sorry for hi jacking the thread, but i was searching this subject and this thread is what i wanted! just wanted to confirm with someone: airport express is used in order to control music on the speakers. Thus need speakers + amplifier + wires. But Sonos needs only one initial port of internet connection? The speakers of Sonos do not need amplifier, and thus no wiring is required? 2 Re: audio from pc to stereo in another room 10Aug 24, 2012 3:09 pm Hi The Airport Express doesn't have an amplifier, so you need to connect it to an amplifier or amplified speakers. The Airport Express can connect to your router via a network cable or it can join your Wi Fi network if you have another Apple base station. The Sonos system needs the Sonos bridge which connects to your router and establishes the connection back to your PC for the Sonos players. The Sonos Play 3 and Play 5 speakers have an amplifier built-in, so they are self-contained. The Sonos Powered Zone Player has an amplifier, so it can connect directly to speakers. The Sonos Unpowered Zone player is like the Airport Express, so you need an amplifier or amplified speakers. Paul Re: audio from pc to stereo in another room 11Aug 24, 2012 9:30 pm Just also be aware that the Sonos will play a wider number of music formats (such as FLAC, a popular lossless music format) than the Airport Express can. Also depends on how many players you want in the long term; the more players, the better the Sonos options gets.
