We have come from a house that has a telephone point, a foxtel point and that is it! LOL now all this talk on data, this and that, we have no idea what it means. so i guess i can ask you for some help, if i explain what we need maybe you guys can advise us. we are building a double storey house at sandhurst, it includes this as a part of what we must get as requirement from sandhurst club. a/ Excavation of trench and backfill from the road reserve communications pit to point of attachment (side of house). b/ 1No. 32mm and 25mm communications conduit with draw cable in above trench c/ 1No. 32mm flexible corrugation conduit from the point of attachment to the WSC suitable for future fibre communications cabling. 2) WSC (Wire Services Cabinet) metal powder coated including: a/ 1No. powered video hub, 3Np. inputs, 8No. outputs with IR capability. b/ 1No. telephone disconnect module up to 8ph/ data outlets. c/ 1No. mode 3 telephone connection socket for alarm dialer. d/ 2No. double power points. 3) Alarm intruder detection system as follows: a/ 16 zone Crow alarm panel with dialer, battery backup and tamper proofing. b/ 1No. LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) key arming pad. c/ 4No. PIR (Passive Infrared) motion detectors pet immunity type. d/ Up to 3No. door reed switches. e/ 2No. emergency panic buttons. f/ 1No. indoor audio sounder. g/ 2No. smoke detectors. 4) Telstra incoming line only from point of attachment to WSC. 5) 1No. Cat 5 phone point from WSC. 6) 1No. Cat 5 club phone point from WSC 7) 1No. FTA (Free to Air) cable from roof space to WSC. 2No. RG6 quad sheild cable TV points. we are pretty simple people, and require basically this configuration it's a double storey house with all bedrooms upstairs, 1. telephone point downstairs to connect our cordless phone to 2. telephone point upstairs to connect cordless phone to (in case of reception problems??) 3. family room LCD wall mounted, tv, foxtel and apple tv 4. home theatre, pre wire speakers and projector (have to get argus to do it approx $1200 all up) 5. we use all wireless for laptops, ipad etc, so i guess a data point downstairs and upstairs. 6. LCD in rumpus upstairs with tv point, foxtel 7. LCD in master bedroom with tv point and foxtel thats prety much it, I have no idea how it all works and what is included.? please help? Re: I have NO IDEA? please help 2Jan 16, 2012 8:09 am If you don't know, or are not sure, it might be a better idea to ask a reputable networking/cabling person in the local area to help and quote. If the above is a requirement for all houses, ask neighbours as to who they used, and how was their experience with them. Re: I have NO IDEA? please help 3Jan 18, 2012 3:57 pm I need help too & have no idea. I don't know who to ask because everyone else seems to be as clueless as us. I might post in the building forum as may get more response. Re: I have NO IDEA? please help 4Jan 19, 2012 10:00 am At best guess it looks like your builder is including the following in the building quote See my notes as to what each item does tengals Hi we are just about to start our first build, and we are very confused. This allows for connection of Data/Foxtel/Phone/FTA from the street to the house b/ 1No. 32mm and 25mm communications conduit with draw cable in above trenchAs above c/ 1No. 32mm flexible corrugation conduit from the point of attachment to the WSC suitable for future fibre communications cabling. This is a conduit(pipe) that will allow you to run wires between the outside of the house and the WSC in the future 2) WSC (Wire Services Cabinet) metal powder coated including: Basically just a box on the wall that houses the stuff below a/ 1No. powered video hub, 3Np. inputs, 8No. outputs with IR capability. This allows foxtel/FTA to be sent to the rooms in the house (basically a antenna slitter), also allows those same cables to send your send your foxtel box or dvd player over the same cable to the other rooms, your foxtel box would be channel 101 for example, the IR allows you to control the box located in the WSC from the remote in the other rooms. b/ 1No. telephone disconnect module up to 8ph/ data outlets. This allows the phone to be sent to other rooms in the house, although it says data as well there is no mention of a data switch so I assume there isn't one c/ 1No. mode 3 telephone connection socket for alarm dialer. This allows the alarm direct access to the external phone line d/ 2No. double power points. No explanation needed 3) Alarm intruder detection system as follows:A basic security system a/ 16 zone Crow alarm panel with dialer, battery backup and tamper proofing. b/ 1No. LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) key arming pad. c/ 4No. PIR (Passive Infrared) motion detectors pet immunity type. d/ Up to 3No. door reed switches. e/ 2No. emergency panic buttons. f/ 1No. indoor audio sounder. g/ 2No. smoke detectors. 4) Telstra incoming line only from point of attachment to WSC. Phone/Data line/Foxtel (assumed) from outside of house to WSC 5) 1No. Cat 5 phone point from WSC. 1 data outlet in the house 6) 1No. Cat 5 club phone point from WSC1 Telephone outlet in the house 7) 1No. FTA (Free to Air) cable from roof space to WSC. From antenna to WSC 2No. RG6 quad sheild cable TV points.2 FTA or Foxtel outlets in the house we are pretty simple people, and require basically this configuration it's a double storey house with all bedrooms upstairs, 1. telephone point downstairs to connect our cordless phone to 2. telephone point upstairs to connect cordless phone to (in case of reception problems??) 3. family room LCD wall mounted, tv, foxtel and apple tv 4. home theatre, pre wire speakers and projector (have to get argus to do it approx $1200 all up) 5. we use all wireless for laptops, ipad etc, so i guess a data point downstairs and upstairs. 6. LCD in rumpus upstairs with tv point, foxtel 7. LCD in master bedroom with tv point and foxtel For what you want to do you would need 1 extra data point, 1 extra telephone phone, 2 extra FTA/Foxtel points, 1 data swtich, 1 Router, 1 Patch panel for the data, 1 wireless access point (possible another depending on the coverage) prewire for your home theater, extra power points for the TV locations and Projector Locations. I would also suggest that you may want extra data points to all TVs for future proofing, for example apple tvs, you may also want to consider having more data outlets, for general internet browsing wireless is fine, but for streaming of media (audio/video) you can soon fill up the wireless network and start getting stuttering etc. thats prety much it, I have no idea how it all works and what is included.? please help? I hope that helps out a little Dave Re: I have NO IDEA? please help 5Jan 19, 2012 3:04 pm Hello, regarding the above system. looking at the components being installed, this is not allowing for high definition foxtel or video distribution. I would talk to an integration consultant or data cabler, Usually for a small fee they will sit down with you work out your needs and draw up a plan to suit. you can then give this plan to a contractor of your choice or your builder for their sparkies to install. hope this helped Electrical - Automation - Smart wiring - New homes - Commercial - Data cabling] 1300 050 315 www.cenemelectrical.com.au www.facebook.com/cenemelectrical I have NO IDEA? please help 6Feb 08, 2012 9:36 pm Hi tengals, we are also about to start building in Sandhurst and also with Carlisle. I'm not sure how far along in the process you are, but when we did our electrical plan they knew about the Sandhurst communications requirements. We were able to determine where we wanted data points etc. Hope you have got it sorted - the Sandhurst requirements can be quite cumbersome.
