Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jan 06, 2012 7:41 am Hi All, The other day I was at the local uni and I stumbled upon a room with 2 large LCD screens on the wall, with an LCD touch screen (roughly 7") between them. This screen controlled the inputs into each screen, allowing switching between the 2 computers in the room to the 2 monitors, and controlled audio etc. Just wondering if anyone knows of a similar product? I am about to build a theatre in my house and would love something like this to control the inputs from different computers / servers / devices on the network via a touch screen interface. Thanks! edit: added image Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Home theatre LCD panel input selector 2Jan 06, 2012 3:30 pm What about a logitech harmony 1100i. Slightly different to what you've shown but has a programmable touch screen along with key button inputs. It might fit the bill. The Logitech remotes are a good alternative. I haven't tried the 1100, but I had the earlier 1000 and it wasn't great (I have heard that the 1100 is a big improvement) - the other Logitech remotes (without touchscreens) are great and I have a couple of them in my house. Paul Re: Home theatre LCD panel input selector 4Jan 09, 2012 12:08 pm Another alternative is something like the UnityRemote from Gear4 http://www.gear4.com/showcase-unity/ that can be controlled from your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch via Bluetooth.
A used iPod Touch can be got for cheap (especially the smaller sized ones, since capacity won't matter) and be purposed for fulltime use as the remote. Although an iPad would be fancier, but you can connect multiple iOS devices and use whatever is at hand. This episode of HDNation has a brief review of it along with a similar device called a Peel, but the Peel seems more focused on working with a US cable TV box and programming, whereas the Unity is general purpose. http://www.youtube.com/embed/AluxJ-Mfc_E Here is a short review from WhatHifi: http://www.whathifi.com/blog/hands-on-w ... nityremote I plan on looking into it a bit further for my own use and will report back. A quick google suggests that it can be had for AUD$99 locally, a lot cheaper than the Harmony 1100 if you already have the iOS device. Good luck. Re: Home theatre LCD panel input selector 5Jan 09, 2012 12:16 pm Update: in the comments section of the Unity review I found a link to another type of device, the L5Remote which plugs a small IR dongle into the bottom of your iDevice and does away with the base station. The official site is a bit sparse on detail: http://www.l5remote.com/ But this review on iLounge shows how you can customise the UI: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/review ... l5-remote/ I beleive there are a few similar IR dongles like this one. Just another option. Re: Home theatre LCD panel input selector 6Jan 10, 2012 2:56 pm Hi all, Thanks so much for your responses. I will look into them over the next week or so and see what I find. Some interesting suggestions, especially the l5remote - looks very cool! cheers! We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for “pre-wiring” so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds.
