Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Feb 12, 2008 11:59 am Hi guys,
Another quick cabling question I'm afraid. We are planning to have a large LCD screen (42") mounted on the wall in our lounge room. Between where we intend the screen to go & where we intend to put all the hardware (DVD, amp etc), there is one noggin. This little chap is blocking a nice easy cable drop. To save all the hassle of drilling loads of holes through this one little noggin & to allow for easy future cable drops.... can I just say goodbye to the little chap ? - or will the house fall down ? This little chap will be placed to rest in the builders skip. Hopefully they will not notice him missing We are loving living in our new home ! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... &start=315 Re: Noggin... or out ? 5Feb 13, 2008 9:23 pm I would place the noggin on its side, those studs are bearing weight esp. if on the lower level. Re: Noggin... or out ? 6Feb 14, 2008 7:28 am The studs bear weight, but the noggins don't. The noggins are only there to keep the studs from bowing - to keep them evenly spaced for their entire length (within allowed tolerances, anyway).
Removing one noggin won't have any noticable effect, as there would be one in the next gap on either side anyway. That said, if you're really concerned about it then it doesn't hurt to turn it on it's side either (I wish they were all done this way anyway - I can't see why not and it would make installs after construction easier in many cases...). Unless there is something in special conditions the builder does not have to give you timeline. If your demolition contractor has not removed Asbestos and it was found… 12 52522 Thanks for the informative response! I'll feed that back to the site supervisor. 2 11594 I would probably render it and then paint it as per your other advice, or gyrpock over the top. 1 10782 |
