Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Dec 10, 2011 12:16 am Hi guys, My house build will start in March so i have some time to research and plan for my theatre room. I will be turning my rumpus into a theatre room (4.1m x 3.5m small room) and want some idea how to plan it. Do you have both Tv and projector in your theatre room ? if not, what do you use your projector for? tv?? movies only?? ps3?? the theatre room and family room is right next to each other, so i cant decide if i should have the equipments in the family room and just have a projector in the theatre room with the fixed screen and speakers OR the other way around. OR is there a way to have both a tv and projector in the theatre room? anyone done similar setup? Maybe a motorized screen that comes down infront of the tv? Lastly in term of equipments. I have been reading, a lot of people are recommending the epson TW3200? or is that outdated now... ? since my house wont finish till sometime mid next year, which projector would you recommend? thank you Re: What do you use your Home Theatre for? 2Dec 10, 2011 5:18 am If your house won't be finished until mid next year the best projector may not be on the market yet. When we built in 2005 our package included a big cathode ray television. By the time the house was built flat screen TVs had come down in price and a bigger flat screen was cheaper than the original price of the TV. Unfortunately the builder had bought the TV and stored it at the time we signed the contract. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! What do you use your Home Theatre for? 3Dec 10, 2011 6:30 am Hi I had a projector in my previous house. It was good for movies and video games, but a bit much for everyday use. In the new house I am putting in a large LCD panel, but I am pre-wiring for a projector so that I can add one later if I want (and the budget allows ). The plan is to drop a screen in front of the wall mounted display as you suggested. You should definitely consider sound though - good surround sound is just as important as a good picture. Combining a $2000-$3000 tv or projector with a $500 sound system and speakers is probably going to lead to disappointment. Paul Re: What do you use your Home Theatre for? 4Dec 10, 2011 8:30 pm thank you for your replies. this HT most likely turn into a long term project. Slowly get projector, screen, sound system, etc since our build went over budget slightly. is motorized or manual pull screen worth the trouble? or just go for a fix screen ? In regards to the sound system, which is better? a wall mounted speakers or in ceiling/wall speakers. anyone have any packages they recommend? for screen, projector, speakers, received and installation? Re: What do you use your Home Theatre for? 5Dec 11, 2011 6:56 pm I visit some home theatre store and i got offered the following and want to get some opinion on it. -Mitsubishi 6800 full HD projector -90"-100" grandview screen -Denon 1912 AV receiver -Denon 1611 Blu-Ray player -PSB Surround sound speaker pack (i believe pack is the one on offer - http://www.digitalcinema.com.au/PSB-ALPHA-Pack-100-p/psb-alpha-pack-100.htm) -PSB Subwoofer -HD set top box for digital TV -HDMI cables and brackets +installation and ps3 All this for $8000..main question is the projector/receiver and sound system worth the money? Thanks guys. Re: What do you use your Home Theatre for? 6Dec 20, 2011 9:21 am That equipment is all decent - very good place to start (or even finish ). One thing - the projector is a bit old by today's standards (the HC6800 has been out for well over a year and has easily been surpassed by the likes of the new Epson range - for less $$!) - BPP must have bought heaps to still be pushing them... Everything else seems quite OK for a very decent HT in 2011. Fixed screens are easy and offer the flattest picture, however if you really do intend to use the room every day and do a lot of everyday viewing in there (watching the news, Dr. Phil, whatever...) you really should consider not using the projector for that stuff a lot. What I did and have installed many times is to have a TV (eg. modest - decent sized plasma/lcd - they are cheap now!) in there for every day viewing and have a motorised screen come down in front of the TV for movies. The best of both worlds.
