Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Dec 05, 2011 10:33 pm Hi, I'm building a new double-brick home and I was hoping to install in-wall front speakers on what will be the part of the external wall. Most of the installation instructions I see are for stud walls and I was wondering if it was possible to also install for brick walls. Is the sound quality impacted? Also can anyone suggest a good mid-range level speakers suitable for this. Thanks. Re: In-Wall Speakers for Brick Wall 2Dec 06, 2011 12:23 pm Hi I can't speak from experience, but my gut feel is that this might be difficult. You will need to get the brick layer to leave a cavity, which may require a lintel. Also, if you don't plan to line the wall with plasterboard you might get a rough finish as the speakers typically have a bezel that rests against the plasterboard to hide the hole - the rough surface of a brick wall won't do this as well. It would also be difficult to change the speakers in the future. If you can afford the space, a better approach may be to build a stud cavity wall in front of the brick wall. You only need about 80mm. This will make it simple to patch the plaster if you need to change speakers. It would also make it easier to run cables in the future. Paul Re: In-Wall Speakers for Brick Wall 3Dec 17, 2011 9:24 pm Thanks for the response Paul. I'm having second thoughts now on the in-wall speakers now and will probably go with a slim on-wall speaker instead. Although not flush with the wall it achieves a similar look. This also solves a number of issues with the difficulties of installation and maintenance gives me more confidence on the sound quality vs an in-wall speaker that is housed within the cavity of a double-brick exterior wall. I'm thinking getting the Mythos-XTR-50. Anyone know if these speakers are any good?
