Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Nov 24, 2011 1:52 pm I have a lot of vinyl records that I would like to store in the home theatre so I can play them when I choose. For the last however many years they have been sitting in a box in a cupboard and I occasionally get them out when I can be bothered to make the effort. If you have vinyl records:- how/where do you store them so they are easy to access? what do you play them on? (I am just about to get rid of my circa 1987 stereo so will need a turntable that connects to the amplifier we have in the HT) Cheers Annette For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Vinyl records - what to do with them? 2Nov 27, 2011 2:19 pm A milk crate works perfect LOL but my guess is you dont want a dirty old milk crate in your lounge room, DJ's still use vinyl and there is plenty of options for vinyl storage mostly shiny metal boxes which enable one to lock them up and carry them around. But a decent vinyl collections deserves to be on display in a cabinet finding one with shelf's wide enough for vinyl may be a challange, you could always modify or build one your self.... In Regards to something to play them on Denon have a few options in a better price range, turntables are a bit like a car the more you pay the better they sound, and unlike a CD its not the same sound out of each machine... so choose wisely... Re: Vinyl records - what to do with them? 3Nov 27, 2011 2:45 pm we have almost 1000 albums, they are in a deep bookcase in alphabetical order. Agree with drew1981 get the best turntable you can afford it makes a difference. Re: Vinyl records - what to do with them? 4Nov 28, 2011 8:22 am Thanks for the advice ... I'm off to look for a deep bookcase and a good turntable For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Vinyl records - what to do with them? 5Nov 28, 2011 8:34 am My record collection (currently still in storage) is usually displayed in the entertainment unit because I play them frequently. I bought a Kenwood turntable a few years ago it has a built in amplifier so just needs speakers. Some favourite LP's I've copied onto a HDD and play through an mp3 player or laptop. So many options available. So many options available. How did you go about copying your LP's onto the HDD ? I found my last attempt to hookup the record player to a computer sounded terrible, the next idea I had was to record via a microphone what the speakers play Re: Vinyl records - what to do with them? 7Nov 28, 2011 11:16 am I've seen them advertised on Catch of the Day - it's a turntable with a USB but at only $79.95 I was a bit worried about the sound ... anyone with more info would be good! Re: Vinyl records - what to do with them? 8Nov 28, 2011 1:11 pm Hi A turntable has a different output impedance and level to other devices, so if you just plug it in to your soundcard, it doesn't sound very good at all. If you have a good turntable, then something likethis is a good way to go. If you don't then you could try this but for $60 it isn't exactly audiophile stuff. Paul I haven’t.
