Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Nov 20, 2011 8:14 pm I have a domestic house currently being built by a builder in Melbourne. I am getting my own data cabling done by a separate company (to do CAT6 and RG6 installation). I found a data cabling company who's owner has an ACMA Open Registration licence (BRCA). I have discussed my requirements with him and has provided me with a quote. However, when I asked him if the person doing my data cabling has an ACMA Open Registration Licence, he said that his staff who will do my actual cabling doesn't have an ACMA Open Registration Licence (I'm not sure if his staff is his permanent employee or merely his subcontractor). Question: Can the person doing my data cabling not have an ACMA Open Registration Licence as long as the person whom he works for does have the said licence type ? I will ask Whirlpool later, as well as email the question to ACMA, but I thought I'd ask here first. 13-08 Moved in 13-05 Build restart 13-04 VMIA compensation 12-08 Builder liquidation 12-03 Fixing 11-12 Lockup 11-11 Frame 11-09 Slab 11-09 Start 11-07 Contract 10-11 2K deposit 10-06 Titled land Re: Employer has ACMA Open Registration licence but not staf 2Nov 20, 2011 8:36 pm Hi, A person without a cabling registration can perform cabling work as long as they are supervised at all times by a registered cabling provider. This means that the person with the registration must be onsite at all times when his staff are performing cabling work. If the RG6 cabling is for free-to-air antenna then a registration is not required for this work. Paul Re: Employer has ACMA Open Registration licence but not staf 3Nov 22, 2011 10:57 am Thanks paulw11. You're correct. It means direct supervision on site at all times, not supervision remotely from the office, or inspecting it at the end. Here's a reply I got from ACMA referencing http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_1455#13 ACMA From: Comply Label <comply.label@acma.gov.au> Date: Mon, Nov 21, 2011 at XXXXX Subject: RE: Cabling Enquiry | EXTERNAL - [SEC=IN-CONFIDENCE] To: XXXXX Dear XXXXX, Below is a quote from our Cabling FAQs on the ACMA website. If I don't have a cabling registration can I do cabling work under supervision? Yes, but you must be directly supervised at all times by a cabler who is registered for the type of work you are doing. The registered cabler who is supervising you must: a. ensure that you are directly supervised; b. take full responsibility for the standard of the work completed; c. ensure all work complies with the relevant competency requirements and the Wiring Rules*; and d. complete a Telecommunications cabling advice form - TCA1 form (PDF or Word). * The Wiring Rules are the minimal requirements for the installation or maintenance of cabling product (including cable) that is connected, or is intended to be connected to a telecommunications network. Copies of the Wiring Rules (AS/ACIF S009:2006) can be obtained from SAI Global or downloaded without charge from the Communications Alliance website.
