Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Nov 20, 2011 7:02 pm Just some pics of my theatre room which has been waiting 4 years to be started, all walls feature rock wool insulation, walls to outside of house now have a second layer of std 10 mm plaster which has been liberally coated with liquid nails to act as a damper of some kind, internal facing walls will receive either one of the following options
1x second layer of 13 mm sound board and green glue 1x second layer of 16mm fireboard and green glue or second studded wall with either 13mm/16mm sound or fire board with a 20mm airgap at this stage havn't decided which way to go. Roof to receive 1x layer of 13mm soundboard or fireboard. Double doors to be replaced with single 920 solid timber door and acoustic/fire seals from door seals australia. 1.5 meter step up at rear with 220mm rise. will add photos as i go hopefully finished in around 3 months http://i723.photobucket.com/albums/ww232/kassan1973/th_IMG_2168.jpg http://i723.photobucket.com/albums/ww232/kassan1973/th_IMG_2165.jpg Re: Theatre room finally started 2Nov 21, 2011 8:35 pm the rock wool insulation is acoustic insulation? ___________ Started design Aug 2011 Plans submitted to council Dec 2011 Re: Theatre room finally started 3Nov 21, 2011 8:58 pm Yes has very good acoustics values and also has a fire rating and used in eaves etc. Re: Theatre room finally started 8Jun 03, 2013 10:55 pm Thanks, put a inground pool in over the summer so been busy finishing paving etc then it was the outdoor spa so poured the concrete slab and built a nice gazebo. Hopefully getting back to cinema room soon, have been told to finish off all my other projects first. Re: Theatre room finally started 10Jun 05, 2013 9:54 pm Most likely a Yamaha advantage 3000 receiver with bluray, speakers undecided so many to choose from these days is going to be a tricky one. Cabinets will all be built in as a wall with black fabric covered doors over the speaker and electronic sections, if it all turns out as i intend there will be no visible components. Thanks Dean Re: Theatre room finally started 11Jun 06, 2013 10:29 am Nice - sure you prob know but they aventage series has just been updated so the new 3030 series will be released soon. I have an aventage 2020 with a soavo system. If budget was no issue - studio 100's for sure! Re: Theatre room finally started 13Jun 10, 2013 3:10 pm Thanks Matt, Bit of a slow project was going to be finished 12 months after we moved in 6 years ago. but with the pergola, decking, swimming pool and spa has been the forgotten room!! the end where i plan on building cabinets in around 3.5 meters compared to rest of room which is 4.5wide so i may have to square off that end where the door is currently and put in as steel beam for the load bearing wall. As i wanted a 120 inch screen but but with cabinets i am only left with 2.3 meters. I love giving myself more work will see how it goes over xmas. Thanks Dean Re: Theatre room finally started 14Jun 12, 2013 12:16 pm Can you just run the cabinets across the bottom rather than up the sides as well? If you don't do the other mods you'd be stuck with less than a 90" screen - too small for sure with that room size. If you could you could go up to 133" depending on the height of your speakers/ceiling height. Re: Theatre room finally started 15Jun 16, 2013 9:05 pm This picture shows what i am doing but continuing cabinets along bottom as well all cavity's will be covered in black mesh doors. http://www.avsforum.com/t/1061114/show- ... ed-theater Distance is 3.8 meters so still not wide enough if side cabinets are 550mm wide may have to square off one side to bring width out to 4.5 meters. It is my goal to make everything hidden is something i have always wanted to do so no compromising on this one. Re: Theatre room finally started 16Dec 30, 2013 11:09 am I don't know if you've finished it or not, but since you'll be using a projector, have you thought about having an AT (Accoustically Transparent) screen ? You can then put your LCR speakers at the optimum elevations, and still get the width that you are after, that's assuming you've got the appropriate height for the width of the screen. AT screens are more expensive, but there's a guy based around the greater Beenleigh(Qld) area that manufactures them at very competitive prices. When I build my new HT room after we build our new house, I'll be going from my 110" 2.35:1 screen up to a 140" 2.35:1 AT screen. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: Theatre room finally started 17Feb 14, 2016 7:48 pm Finally some more work going on in the cinema room. moved angled wall on left hand side to gain an additional 600 mm in front wall width, Had to fit a larger lintel as it was a LBW and add 2 bulkheads to cover, walls are finished with 36mm's fireboard and ceiling 20mm's sound stop. Side Cabinets made and centre to be done tomorrow my biggest decision is can i use front ported floor standing speakers inside the cabinets or mount in walls in my cabinets and angle towards seating? Any advise on good wall mounts would be appreciated. I just noticed i had 3 months back in 2011 for a completion time!!! Been waiting on plumbers to cut my floor slab and repair sewer pipes under this room with a little or perhaps a lot of pressure from the plumbing commission 5 years on and at least they have finished.
