Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation Re: Speaker Cables - Please Help 22Dec 22, 2011 11:00 pm IMHO........... Good quality 12 gauge wire is all you ever need for speaker cable. "Good quality"so it has a decent insulation, and 12 g so it's got enough copper in it so that (for all practical domestic purposes) you can run it as far as you like and run your speakers as loud as you like without any further consideration. As far as main power leads consisting of an alloy of 60% solid-gold, 47% pure silver, 16% oxygen-free-helium-impregnated-copper, 13% unobtainium, IMHO, what a load of cr@p !!! Like these mains leads are one meter long........ Lets "assume" they are capable of transmitting electricity "cleanly" (whatever that means) from your power-point to amp, what about the 20 meters of wiring between your switchboard and power-point, or the fifty-six kilometers between the power station and your meter-board ? Save your $$'s, buy some decent quality 12g wire and be happy !!
